Backfire Causes
Damage To Car
The Griffin Fire Department
extinguished a car fire Friday
afternoon in the Big Apple park
ing lot on North Hill street.
A backfire through the car
buretor of a car owned by La
mar Wilkes of Griffin damaged
the carburetor and hood of the
car.
Mercer Extension
Class Won’t Meet
The Mercer Extension School
will not meet next Tuesday be
cause of the evangelism confer
ence under way at Macon.
The school will resume class

Johnson Places
In Judging Event
John Johnson, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Harold Johnson, tied for
fifth place in a livestock judging
contest during the Southeast
ern Type Conference, held in
Bolling Green, Ky. He received
a $20 discount on the bred Berk
shire gilt that he bought at the
sale. He is a member of the
East Griffin Boy’s 4-H Club and
he serves as vice president of
his club.
There were 4-H’ers and F.F.A.
members from all over the Sou
theast plus Indiana, Illinois, and
Ohio, who took part in the judg
ing event.
Other Spalding County 4-H’ers
who participated in the, judging
contest were Hal Johnson and
Gilda Childres of the Spalding
Junior High 4-H Clubs.

Georgia College for the fall
quarter.
DAVID E. STEWART
Cadet David E. Stewart, son
of Mr. and Mrs. James Stewart
of Rout Four, Griffin, has been
promoted to the rank of Cadet
First Sergeant in the Corps of
Cadets at North Georgia College,
Dahlonega. He will be First Ser
geant for Company A. His pro
motion was based upon acade
mic and military grades as well
as leadership qualities.

tesboro. Miss Flynt, a 1965 gra
duate of Griffin High School, is
the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.

While they radioed police to

whizzed past the site of the fire
