fin-Spalding Hospital this mor
ning after being admitted ear
lier this morning.

Volunteer Firemen
Answer Heater Fire
The Dundee Volunteer Fire
Station No. One was called to
132 LaPrade road, the residen
ce cf Gerldine Harris, at 7:15 p.
in. Tuesday, where cloth was
burning in a gas heater. Slight
smoke damage was reported.
The new fire truck, which was
recently bought by the Volunteer
Firemen, made its first run
Tuesday night to the fire on La
Prade road.

RETIRES AT 16
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (UPI)
— Leonore Modell, the youngest
person ever to swim the English
Channel, announced her retire
ment Tuesday at the age of 16.
The Sacramento school girl
churned across the channel in
1964 when she was 14 years old.
The previous year she swam
across Lake Tahoe,
”1 got tired of it,” she said,
“I have been thinking about
quitting for a long time.”

Little Miss Mobley
Dies Tuesday
Little Miss Sandra Ann
ley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Wayne Mobley of 1317 Jackson
street, Stephens subdivision, died
Tuesday night in an Atlanta Hos
pital.
She would have been four
years old on March 2. Born in
Fort Bragg, N. C, Sandra Ann
had lived in Griffin most all of
her life.
Survivors, other than her par
ents, include a sister, Tonya Mi
chelle Mobley; grandparents,
the Rev. and Mrs. W. C. Dodd
of Griffin, Mr. and Mrs. T. J.
Mobley of Atlanta; and a great
grandfather, D. P. Dodd of Gai
nesville.
Funeral services will be con
ducted Thursday afternoon at 2
o'clock from the North Griffin
Congregational Holiness Church
with the Rev. J. J. Stephens of
ficiating. Burial will be in Grif
fin Memorial Gardens. The body
will be carried to the home of
Rev. and Mrs. Dodd, 1348 Jack
son street, to remain until the
funeral hour. McDonald Chapel
is in charge of arrangements.

The Griffin High School Band and Dramatics Club are co-sponsoring the third
annual appearance of the Southern Ballet of Atlanta to Griffin on Saturday, Feb
ruary 4 at 8 p. m. The ballet will perform in the Griffin High auditorium. Tickets
are 75 cents for students and $1.50 for adults. Two of the dancers who will per
form for the Griffin audience are Lynne and Tom Moore in “American Fragments.”

Muir Slated For
Court Martial
COLUMBUS, Ga. (UPI)—The
Army announced today it has
ordered a general court martial
for conscientious objector J.
Harry Muir.
The action was recommended
by Col. Ed Mabry, command
ing officer in charge of the Ft.
Benning student brigade which
investigated Muir’s case last
month. The time and place of
the court martial was not set
Immediately, the Army said.
Muir, a specialist fourth
class, refused to wear his Army
uniform after refusal of his ap
plication for discharge on
grounds he was a conscientious
objector.
The self-styled poet, serving
his second enlisted hitch, was
arrested Jan. 4 after he made
public his anti-war sentiments
and did not report for duty.
Muir, 22, son of a prominent
Goldsboro, N. C., family, was
represented at the student bri
gade hearing by American Civil
Liberties Union attorney Lagh
lin McDonald of Atlanta.

Elects Board
Of Directors
The board of directors for the
country club being organized in
Griffin were elected at a meet
ing of the general membership
Monday night.
Elected to the board were Til
man Blakely, Sr., W. H. Shap
ard, John Godard, John T. New
ton, Eldred Hill, Seaton Bailey,
D. J. (Square) Smith, Dr. Will
iam King and D. B. Searcy, Jr.

the meeting. The membership
discussed the possibility of var

DRUG SURVEY
WASHINGTON (UPI) —More
than half the 246 drug
manufacturers checked in a
survey last year had products
with unacceptable potency le
vels, according to the Food and
Drug Administration.
Of 4,573 samples collected.
376, or 8.2 per cent were above
or below acceptable potency
levels. The unacceptable sam
ples came from 127 different
companies, the FDA said in a
report Tuesday.
The survey, which began last
spring, was limited to sam
plings of 20 types of drugs In
which potency variations are of
medical significance.
