76ers Stuck
In Reverse
By United Press International
The super-charged Philadel

out of reverse.
The terror of the National
Basketball Association until two
weeks ago, Philadelphia Isn’t
frightening anybody today after
suffering its third consecutive
defeat and fourth in the last six
games.
The hot-shooting San Francis
co Warriors bombed the proud
Bastem Division leaders 137-120
Thursday night for their first
victory of the season over the
76ers, whose onetime strangle
hold on first plaace has been
reduced to a slippery grip of
five games over the idle Boston
Celtics.
Cincinnati frittered away a 26
point lead, then rallied to defeat
Baltimore 131-125 in the only
other game on the NBA
schedule.
Rick Bary scored 49 points,
including 22 in the third quarter
when the Warriors broke open
the game, as San Francisco
stretched its Western Division
lead to 10'/a games over St.
Louis before 13,299 at the
Oakland Coliseum.
San Francisco led 68-54 at
halftime and outpointed the
7634s 26-13 at the outset of the
third period to wrap it up.
Hal Greer led the 76ers with
89 points.
Oscar Robertson, who had
gone to the dressing room for
treatment of a slightly pulled
hamstring muscle, returned to
action late in the game and
lifted the Royals past the
Bullets, Baltimore had erased a
10-74 deficit with a stirring
rally and taken a 115-114 lead

Robertson scored a three-point
play to settle the outcome.

MICKEY'S GOALS. All-time great Yankee slugger Mickey Mantle, admittedly
nearing the end of his playing days, will try to earn hi* $100,000 salary for the
1967 season by reaching career marks outlined on the chalk board. Mantle, with
the Yanks 16 seasons, would be the second New Yorker in history (the other Babe
Ruth) to hit the charmed home run figure.
