Scouts To Take Over
On Scout Civic Day
Boy Scouts of Griffin and
ding County will take over
ious positions in ths city and
county governments next
as the Scouts observe “Scout
vic Day”.
The Scouts will be assigned to
an official of the city or
and will “perform” his duties
during the day.
The program is designed to
give the Scouts a first hand view
of the people and departments
that make the city and county
“tick.”
The Scouts and city and coun
ty officials will meet at 9 a.m. in
the court room at city hall. The
Scouts will be assigned to an of
ficial and will take the oath of
office.
The Scouts will be treated to
a luncheon at noon at Russell’s
Restaurant.
City and county offices to be
“taken over” are:
City: city manager, city engi
neer, building inspector, chief
of police, captain of police (pr
owl car), patrolman, director of
public works, director of re
creation, superintendent of sani
tary department, superintendent
of dog pound, superintendent of
cemetery, superintendent of

Southern Ballet
To Perform
Here Saturday
On Saturday night, at 8 p.m.
the Southern Ballet of Atlanta
will present its third annual per
formance at the Griffin High
School auditorium, with a new
show featuring the music of
Leonard Bernstein, Aaron Cop
lin and George Gershwin.
The Ballet is co-sponsored by
the Griffin High School band and
Dramatics Club. Tickets may
be purchased from any hand or
speech student or at the door.
Admission is 75 cents for stu
dents and $1.50 for adults.
The Ballet is directed by Mr.
and Mrs. Pittman Correy and
is in its 21st year. The regular
company will perform along with
the Junior and Intermediate com
panies.

To Preach In
Macon Sunday
The Rev. Byron M. Wilkinson
will preach his first sermon as
pastor of Tattnall Square Bap
tist Church in Macon on Sunday.
The Rev. Wilkinson was for
mer pastor of the Hatcher Me
morial Baptist Church in Rich
mond, Va„ for the past nine and
one half years and served for
merly as pastor of the First Bap
tist Church in Griffin.
Zebulon Man
Hurt In Wreck
William Oressea Calvert of
Route One, Zebulon, suffered
lacerations to his head and face
in an accident Thursday 3.5 mil
es west of Barnesville on Geor
gia 18.
He was admitted to the Grif
fin-Spalding County Hospital.
State troopers estimated da
mage to his car at $800.
No one was Injured in two oth
er accidents Thursday. Damage
was estimated at $800.
Mrs. Rentfrow
Dies Thursday
Mrs. Rebecca Emilie Dawson
Rentfrow of 928 West Solo m o n
street, widow of Mr. Ernest
Rentfrow, died Thursday after
noon at the Griffin-Spalding Hos
pital. Mrs. Rentfrow suffered a
stroke when she was admitted
earlier in the day.
She was a native of Russell
County, Ala., and had resided
in Griffin for many years. Mrs.
Rentfrow was a retired employe
of Rushton Mills and was a
member of Hanleiter Methodist
Church.
She is survived by one daugh
ter, Mrs. W. C. Porter of Grif
fin; three grandchildren,, Mrs.
Kenneth L. Smithey of Lincoln,
Neb., Mrs. rranK Herron, Jr.,
of Atlanta, William C. Porter,
Jr., of Smyrna; and six great
grandchildren.
Funeral services will be con
ducted Saturday afternoon at 2
o’clock from Haisten’s chapel.
The Rev. John B. Taylor will of
ficiate and burial will be in Oak
Hill cemetery. Haisten Funeral
Home is in charge.

The Rural Electrification Ad
ministration has approved a
loan of $745,000 to the Central
Georgia Electric Membership
Corporation, at Jackson. It will
be used to finance 64 miles of
distribution line to serve 900 new
consumers and to finance exten
sive improvements including six
miles of new tie line and conver
sion of 39 miles of existing line
and related facilities.

ce the loan had been granted.

LOZENGES BANNED
WASHINGTON (UPI) —The
Food and Drug Administration
has taken final action to remove
antibiotic throat lozenges and
mouthwashes from the market.
The FDA said Wednesday the
products were banned because
there was no evidence they did
what they claimed to do—help
cure sore throats.
