Hagan Backs
Expel Right
Amendment
WASHINGTON (UPI) — Rep.
G. Elliott Hagan, D-Ga., today
planned to introduce a proposal
to amend the U. S. Constitution
to strengthen the authority of
the House to expel one of its
members.
Hagan said some congress
men questioned the authority of
the House to refuse to seat Rep.
Elect Adam Clayton Powell,
D-N.Y., under a present consti
tutional clause 'hat says each
House is the judge of qualifica
tions of its own members.

Seminar Tonight
Dr. Ross Grumet, psychiatrist
and Eugene D. Anderson, cer
tified social worker, will lead a
Family Life Seminar tonight
at 7:30. The seminar will be held
in the conference room, second
floor, in the Griffin-Spalding Co
unty Health Center.
This is the second of a series
of Family Life Seminars spon
sored by the local Mental Health
Clinic.
The subject to be discussed is,
“Brief Topics Related To Child
hood Development”. After the
formal presentation, there will
be opportunity for question and
answer session.
Those parents who are inter
ested in childhood development
are invited to attend.
Fire On Everee Rd.
Burns Half Of House
Two woods fires in Upson Co
unty were extinguished by the
Spalding County Forestry Unit
Sunday. Rangers reported three
aeres were burned in one of the
fires and in the other, one and a
quarter acres were burned.
At 5 p.m. the Forestry Unit
answered a call to a house fire
on the Everee road. Owner of
the house was C.T. Phillips. Cau
se of the fire was undetermin
ed. Half of the house was des
troyed. Mattie Hightower occup
ied the house.
Rev. Corley, 54,
Is Buried Today
The Rev. James Onis Corley,
54, of Route One, Barnesville,
Ga. died Saturday night at his
residence after an extended ill
ness. He was born in Monroe Co
unty (now known as Lamar) and
had lived here all bis life. Be
fore retirement Mr. Corley was
a receiving clerk at Smith’s
Inc. Mr. Corley was a member
of the Midway Baptist Church
and a Woodman of the World.
He is survived by his widow,
Mrs. Bessie Mae Ross Corley;
two daughters, Mrs. Dorothy
Torbert, Mrs. Wayne Salter; a
son, Merrill Corley, all of Bar
nesville; four brothers, R. M.
Corley, Milner; I* C. Corley,
Barnesville, J. Q. Corley, Bar
nesville, A. U. Corley, Green
brier, Tenn.; four grandchild
ren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conduc
ted this afternoon at 3:00 o’clock
from the Midway Baptist Church
in Lamar County with the Rev.
Bill Coleman and the Rev. J. C.
McGaha officiating. Burial was
the Midway Baptist Church ce
metery.

Barnesville was in charge of ar
rangements.

MACON — Taylor Wynne, Gr
iffin jeweler who is a member
of the board of directors of the
Georgie Retail Jewelers Asso
ciation, was one of some 300
retail jewelers who attended the
annual meeting of the associa
tion here Sunday.

Six People Hurt
In Weekend Wrecks
Six people were Injured in wr
ecks to Griffin and the surroun
ding area over the weekend.
Lynward Criswell, 9, of 814
Williams street, Griffin, suffer
ed head injuries and a possible
fracture to his left arm when
the bicycle he was riding ran
into the side of a car on Experi
ment street.
The car driven by Nedrell St
abbs Foster of 1709 Ridge street.
Griffin, was passing the boy on
the bicycle.
Officers said to a report the
boy had a gas can on the hand
lebars of his bicycle and lost
control of it.
He was admitted to the Grit
fln-Spalding County Hospital.
Two McDonough children were
injured to an automobile acci
dent two miles west of McDon
ough on Jonesboro road.
Lillie Mae Fletcher, 10, suf
fered bruises to her head and a
possible fractured jaw. Bobby
Jean Fletcher, 6, suffered a bro
ken collar bone.
They were passengers in a car
driven by George Fletcher, Jr.
of Route Three, McDonough. Of
ficers estimated damage at $75.
Carl J. Stone, 37, of Chattanoo
ga, Tenn., suffered a broken ri
ght leg to an accident 4.6 miles
north of Culloden on U. S. 341.
Cars involved were driven by
Clarence Sullivan, 20, of Route
Five, Thomaston, and Edward
D. Norman of Chattanooga. Da
mage was estimated at $1,650.
Robert A. Faulkner of Route
Three, Barnesville, suffered la
cerations to his bead to an acci
dent 11 miles north of Barnes
ville on English Mill road.

JACKSON — The Jackson Kt

Little Jerry Wayne Hall, 10
month old son of Mr. and Mrs.
Jerry Wayne Hall, was fatally
injured in a traffic accident in
the Birdie Community Saturday
afternoon.
In addition to his parents, he
is survived by his grandparents,
Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Hall, Mr. and
Mrs. W. A. Singleton of Griffin;
great-grand-parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Grady Bowlden of Griffin,

Funeral services were conduc
ted this morning at 11 o’clock
from Haisten’s chapel with the
Rev. Cecil Dix and the Rev.
Jimmy Chambers officiating.
Burial was to Griffin Memorial
Gardens.
Ex-Griffinite
Dies In Atlanta
Mr. Joseph S. Bridges, 62, of
740 Forrest Trail, N.W., Atlan
ta, died at Crawford W. Long
Hospital to Atlanta Saturday ni
ght alter a short Illness.
Mr. Bridges was a native of
Fayettee County, son of the late
Solomon Bridges and the late
Virginia Trailer Bridges. He liv
ed in Griffin before moving to
Atlanta 35 years ago. Mr. Brid
ges was an electrician. He was
a member of St. Luke’s Episco
pal Church in Atlanta.
He Is survived by his widow,
Mrs. Rebecca White Bridges;
one son, Joe C. Bridges of An
niston, Ala.; one sister, Mrs.
Robert H. Cole of East Point;
and one brother, Howard Brid
ges of East Point.
Funeral services will be con
ducted Tuesday at 2 o’clock from
the graveside in the Stockbrid
ge City cemetery. The Rev. B.
S. Cobb will officiate. Mr. Brid
ges’ body is at Haisten Funeral
Home. The funeral party will
leave Haisten’s at 1 o’clock
Tuesday for the services.

For Mr. Wooten
Mr. Noel Rupert Wooten of
418 North Second street died
at the Griffin-Spalding Hospital
Saturday afternoon where he
had been a patient for the past
several days. Mr. Wooten had
been ill for two weeks.
Mr. Wooten was a lifelong re
sident of Spalding County, son
of die late Charlie Addison Woo
ten and the late Mrs. Mattie
Head Wooten. He was a car
penter and a member of the Flat
Rock Primitive Baptist Church.
Survivors include his widow,
Mrs. Elizabeth Kendrick Woo
ten; four daughters, Mrs. H. G.
Pilcher of Griffin, Mrs. B. M.
Camp of Smyrna, Mrs. James
Grubbs of Barnesville, Mrs.
Charlie Stapleton of Macon; one
son, Garland Wooten of Griffin,
nine grandchildren and 18 great
grandchildren.
Funeral services were conduc
ted this afternoon at 2 o’clock
from Haisten Cha, ;1 with t h e
Rev. G. L. Howard, the Rev.
Paui Wade and the Rev. Robert
Lloyd officiating. Burial was in
Oak Hill cemetery.

Mrs. Pearl Lane Edwards, wi

Sunday morning at the home of
her son and daughter, Mr. and
Mrs. John C. West, 1210 Zebu
Ion road after an illness of
eight months.
Mrs. Edwards was bom In Jas
per County, daughter of the late
Fleming Lane and the late Mrs.
Fannie Pope Lane. She was a
member of the Midway Metho
dist Church.

ter-in-law, Mrs. Reath Edwards;
four grandchildren, Mrs. Betty
