In Western Pennsylvania to
day state police continued their
escort of milk rigs to receiving
stations. During the weekend
several trucks were stopped and
their contents dumped. One
Eastern Pennsylvania spokes
man said at least 21 dairy cows
had been sold for slaughter.
The Michigan Milk Producers
Association Monday filed a $1
million suit against the NFO,
charging the NFO with conspir
ing and attempting to interfere
with the MMPA efforts to
market the fluid milk.
NFO president Oren Lee
Staley said he had no knowledge
of the suit or of others
reportedly being processed for
court action, but added that
Michigan farmers were
“amazed” that some groups,
such as the MMPA, are fighting
against them. Staley said the
farmers finance the Michigan
organization and now were
having their money used to
fight them,
The MMPA Monday also
claimed that 95 per cent of its
milk was going to market, a 5
per cent increase over its
weekend report.
In the nation’s dairy center,
Wisconsin, weekend reports of
violance led Gov. Warren
Knowles to issue a stiff warning
of penalties for illegal activities.
He said he has asked the
Federal Bureau of Investigation
to help determine if vandalism
and violance was organized in
the holding activities.
$18.7 Million
For Ga. Roads
In ‘Freeze’
ATLANTA (UPI)—State High
way engineer M. L. Shadburn
said Friday that $5.7 million in
road funds released by the fed
eral government to Georgia will
not go far in meeting the
state’s needs.
“It’s just like taking an as
pirin,” Shadburn said. "Nothing
big can come of this.”
The State Highway Depart
ment said some $18.7 million
earmarked for Georgia is still
in the federal freeze.
Assistant highway director
Emory Parrish said it was not
known if the money would be
specified for certain projects
such as engineering and right
of way purchase. If not, he said,
he felt some of the $5.7 million
would find its way into the in
terstate program.

POWELL’S OPPONENT —
Named by New York City
Republicans to run against
Adam Clayton Powell, de
posed Harlem Democratic
representative, for his va
cated seat in the House, Mrs.
Lucille Picket Williams, an
attractive, 50-year-old grand
mother, tells newsmen she
wants “to demonstrate to the

Roy Harris Not
Candidate For
Regent Chairman
ATLANTA (UPI) — Segrega
tionist publisher Roy V. Harris
of Augusta said Monday that he
is not a candidate for chair
man of the State Board of Re
gents.
James Dunlap of Gainesville
will probably be elected to his
fifth one-year term as chair
man, possibly when the board
meets Wednesday although the
election is not on the regents’
agenda.
Gov. Lester Maddox named
Harris to the board to succeed
Charles M. Smithgall of Gaines
ville, who was appointed by
former Gov. Carl Sanders who
also dumped Harris from the
regents.
Harris said Monday that he
has not been a candidate for
chairman and “will not be at
this time.” There had been re
ports that Dunlap wanted to
step down, but decided to seek
reelection when it was thought
Harris would try for the job.
Harris said he had heard
there had been some moves
against Dunlap, but insisted he
had nothing to do with them.

The governor would not re

planned to deal with in New
York.
Maddox also has announced
that his office will appropriate
$100,000 to the Department of
Industry and Trade for an in
