This Week’s Editorial
By A Woman Especially For Women
Reasons Why
Women Gab
“Do not feel insulted if the American wife dominates
the conversation,” delegates to the United Nations are
warned in a booklet written to help them understand the
American way of life.
The booklet might have gone on to explain why the
American wife so often dominates the conversation when
she is in a group. Almost any American wife could have
written the explanation of why she talks so much when
she is out.
Reason one: She doesn’t get to talk at home because in
his own home the American husband can usually be found
in front of his television set or behind his morning or eve
ning newspaper.
Reason two: Having been educated to think for herself
instead of to accept men’s ideas without question, she
usually has something to say for herself.
Reason three: Since she makes most of the decisions at
home because her husband doesn’t want to be bothered
with family problems after a hard day’s work, the Ameri
can woman feels qualified to speak up in judgment of the
decisions of others when they come up for discussion.
Reason four: Chances are the American woman is as
politically active as her husband, so she feels just as qual
ifed to speak out on politics (one of men’s favorite sub
jects) as her husband. Since she shares her husband’s in
terest in sports she doesn't hesitate to speak up when
sports are being discussed, either. And if she is a working
wife, as so many American women are, she doesn’t even
have to sit silent when the talk turns to the business world.
Reason five: Only this one is to her discredit; she has
no scruples, as most men have, about interrupting others
in midsentence to be sure of having her say. She has gotten
her conversational training from talking to other women
and in a group of women the only ones who get to talk are
those who know how to interrupt and then talk loud
enough and fast enough to hold the floor against all chal
lengers.

South Expressway
Is Dangerous
FAYETTE COUNTY NEWS
The South Expressway is continuing to live up to its
reputation as one of Georgia’s most dangerous stretches
of highways.
In the past, we’ve referred to it as “Slaughter Alley.”
The numerous cross-overs, plus over-crowded conditions,
have all been contributing factors as the death toll has con
tinued to mount. And, for the past few months, an addi
tional hazard has existed. Construction has brought about
the detour, where four traffic lanes have been squeezed
into an area designed for three. Traveling south from
downtown Atlanta, you reach the detour at University
Avenue. Since there’s no median in this stretch of high
way, you feel like you’re traveling into the barrel of a shot
gun. Cars going in the opposite direction whiz past only a
few feet from your vehicle. The net effect is frightening,
to say the least.
Obviously, something must be done to lessen the dan
ger involved in traveling on the South Expressway. But
what?
The detour area will become much safer when con
struction is completed and the detour no longer exists.
This leaves the part of the Expressway which runs through
Clayton County and extends to Griffin. This is the area
where the many cross-overs turn driving into a nightmare.
One possible answer would be to lighten the traffic load.
It stands to reason that if fewer vehicles use the South
Exoressway, not as many accidents will occur.
One possible alternate route for drivers passing this way
is Georgia 85. However, most drivers familiar with the
area avoid this route at all costs. Georgia 85 has only two
lanes, and if you get behind a slow driver, you’re at his
mercy.
One suggestion, then, is to four-lane Georgia 85. This
route, if four-laned, would take much of the pressure off
the South Expressway below the Atlanta Airport.
Another suggestion is to reduce the number of cross
overs. At the present time, you feel like cars are coming at
you from all directions. Many of these cross-overs could
probably be eliminated completely.
With a reduced flow of traffic and fewer cross-overs, the
South Expressway could lose much of its bloody reputa
tion.

Life has lost its zest and I feel
I have come to the end. The til
ings I formerly enjoyed don’t in
terest me and life is dull. What's
to me B. V.
It could well be that you have
not come to the end of life —but
to the beginning. No doubt your
previous way of living was built
upon the wrong foundation. You
have built on the sand, and the
sand is slipping out from under
you. This happens to many peo
ple, particularly to men in their
middle fifties. They live danger
ously for a few years, and sp
end their natural powers fool
ishly. Then, suddenly, like the
prodigal son, they come to them
selves. He looked into the faces
of the hogs he was feeding, and
saw r himself; with all his greed,
low passion and selfishness. It
was then that he experienced an
awakening and said; "I will
arise and go to my father.”
What's happened to you? You
have caught a glimpse of your
self as you really are, and you
are disgusted with what you see.
This is not bad — but good.
What you need is to yield to Je
sus Christ. Life always breaks
down without God, with or with
out money, with or without suc
cess. Now you can build on a
sure foundation: upon faith in
God, and you will find that pur
pose for living has just begun.

My God, my God, why hast

PRAYER; Amid the anxieties
and pressures of the day, our
Father, help us to be strong and
courageous, knowing that Thy
strength is equal to any human
need. Though we may not un
derstand why life hurts us, help
us to live confidently, believing
that all things work together for
good to those who love Thee. In
the Redeemer’s name. Amen.
