Carpeting Gives Kitchen a New Look
By AILEEN SNODDY
Newspaper Enterprise Assn.
NEW YORK—<NEA)—Car
pet manufacturers have been
trying to sell the idea of car
peting bathrooms, recreation
rooms and kitchens for more
than 10 years.
It has been difficult for
most homemakers to accept
the use of fabric on the floor
as practical, especially in a
room where food and liquid
spills are a way of life and the
traffic is heavier than at the
Main Street stoplight.
Inroads have been made,
though. Contributing to the
use of carpeting in areas once
considered only for tile, wood,
linoleum or other washable
materials is the variety of
synthetic fibers. Because of
the fiber’s structure the car
pets resist moisture, dirt, dust
and most household stains.
A small kitchen takes on a
completely when new atmosphere
carpeted blue, in vibrant red,
pending green, gold or beige, de
upon one’s taste. Geo
metric or floral designs or a
checkerboard effect are pos
sible, too.
A small kitchen can be a do
it-yourself project. Stylists
using a Herculon fabric
learned these important facets
of carpeting a kitchen:
• They better discovered it is al
ways to have a little
extra carpet than too little,

WALL-TO-WALL CARPETING is spreading throughout the house. Man-made fibers,
especially, make it more feasible for kitchen use. Smaller kitchens look larger with
such carpeting. This illusion is one reason why many homemakers prefer wall-to
