The station will tell of plans the town has for enlargment of its water and sewerage facili ties and other programs. The radio focus attention on history, industry, business and recreation in the Pike County community. President-Elect Os NEA To Speak Kere Wednesday Braulio Alonso, president-elect of the National Education Asso ciation and principal of King High School, Tampa, Fla., will speak at the Wednesday meet ing of the Griffin Kiwanis Club, address the Grlffin-Spaldirtg Co unty Education Association and install the association’s officers. The Kiwanis Club meeting will be held at noon at the Griffin Elks Club. The address to the teachers will be Wednesday af ternoon and the installation of officers will be at the Griffin- Spalding Education Association Banquet Wednesday night. A graduate of the University of Tampa, he received his mas ters degree from the University of Florida. He served in the African and Italian campaigns of World War Two, rising from private to Major. He received the purple heart with cluster and a Bronze Star with Cluster. He was first elected a princi pal in 1951. He has served as president of the Florida Educa tion Association. To get a good job, /yS get a good education Published as a public service in coop eration with The Advertising Council Mrs. Gilstrap Dies Monday Mrs. Mary Jane Ivey Gilstrap of 504 North Ninth street, wi dow of Mr. James Edward Gil strap, died Monday morning at the homo of her daughter, Mr 3. Tyra Howard, on the old Orch ard Hill road. Mrs. Gilstrap was born in Brookfield, Ga., but had lived in Griffin for the past 44 years. She was a member of the East Griffin Baptist Church. Survivors include five daugh ters, Mrs. Tyra Howard, Mrs. Horace Smith, Mrs. Jesse Ev ans, all of Griffin, Mrs. D. B. Keheley of Albany, Mrs. Lucy Dorsey Os Thomaston; two sons, J. T. Gilstrap of Griffin, E. M. Gilstrap of Albany; five sisters, Mrs. Minerva Kinsey, Mrs. Nan cy Pritchard, both of Albany, Mrs. Lizzie Fletcher of Ashburn, Mrs. Lena McDermid of War ner Robins, Mrs. Lillie Phillips of Brookfield; 14 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and se veral nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be con ducted Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the East Griffin Baptist Church. The Rev. S. J. Wheeler, the Rev. E. D. Goss and the Rev. Sam Buchanan will officiate and burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery. Mrs. Gil strap’s body will remain at Mc- Donald Chapel. Claxton’s Will Represent Griffin Mr. and Mrs. Lee Roy Clax ton will represent the Griffin- Spaldtng County Mental Health Association at Jekyll Island this weekend, April 14-15. Mrs. Claxton, president of the local chapter, will attend the quarterly board meeting of the Georgia Association of Mental Health on Friday afternoon. Mr. Claxton, who serves on the bo ard of directors from both the Grlffin-Spalding Mental Health Association and the Georgia De partment of Public Health, will join Mrs. Claxton and others on Friday night for a presentation on the overall plan and program in mental health for Georgia. During the workshop on Satur day morning specific steps and information will be given on "how a community establishes a comprehensive community mental health centers program”. Gilchrist Installed As Elk Leader Thomas G. Gilchrist of 628 Windy Hill road, Griffin, was in stalled Exalted Ruler of the Griffin Elk’s Lodge Monday ni ght. He succeeded J. P. Jennings who was named a trustee. Other officers installed with Gilchrist were: Wyman Mat hews, Leading Knight; V. M. Morris, Loyal Knight; Calvin Perry, Lecturing Knight; La fayett (Bill) Beck, Esquire; Ja mes G. Doe, Chaplain; James Searcy, Inner Guard; and Ro bert Howell, Tiler. F. D. Hunt was re-installed as lodge secretary and O. M. (Pete) Snider retained his office as treasurer. Jennings joins C. T. Parker and Kimsey Stewart as trustees. Florida Group To Stop Here Three Florida vacations and five deep sea fishing trips will be given away to area citizens Wednesday, April 12 between 1:30 and 1:45 p.m. A delegation representing "Mi racle Strip” will pass through Griffin promoting their vacation resorts. The delegation will stop over at the parking lot of the First National Bank to greet local cit izens and to give away the va cations and fishing trips. The Mircale Strip is compos ed of Panama City, Fort Walton Beach, Mexico Beach, Destin, Pensacola and Pensacola Beach. The group promoting the area selected Griffin as one of their 14 stopovers which includes At lanta, Columbus, Ashville, N.C., and as far north as Cleveland, Ohio. Mrs. Meeks Os Barnesville Dies Mrs. Hattie Mae Collins Meeks died this morning at her home on the Zebulon road, near Bar nesville, after an extended ill ness. A native of Stevens County, she had resided in Barnesville for three years. She was a member of the Zebulon Baptist Church in Toccoa, Ga. She is survived by her hus band, Odell Meeks; five sons, LeGuin Meeks of Duluth, Free man Meeks of Toccoa, Wayne Meeks of Lavonia, Arnold Meeks of Denmark, S.C., Phil lip Meeks of Barnesville: her mother, Mrs. Susie Collins of Toccoa; six sisters and four bro thers, among them, R. L. Collins of Barnesville; and four grand children. Mrs. Meeks’ body is at Hais ten Funeral Home in Barnes ville and will be carried to Toc coa Wednesday morning. Fun eral services will be conducted Thursday morning at 11 o’clock from the Zebulon Baptist Chur ch in Toccoa. The Rev. Oscar Anderson and the Rev. Wade Lord will officiate aud burial will be in the church cemetery. Hais ten Funeral Home of Barnes ville is in charge of arrange ments. Man Returned To Florida MONTICELLO, Ga. — A man identified as Ernest Calvin Bar rett, 53, has Been extradited from Georgia to Florida in con nection with the murder of his former wife and her boyfriend, the GBI said today. Barrett was arrested by sher iff's officials at Monticello where he was working with a telephone company. Mr. Evans Os Jackson Dies JACKSON, Ga. — Mr. Alien Perry Evans, 60, of 167 Frank lin street, Jackson, died late Monday afternoon at the Sylvan Grove Hospital after suffering a heart seizure Monday morn ing at his home. Mr. Evans had been a mem ber of the Jackson Police De partment for the past four ye ars. Prior to that, for 19 years he was employed at Pepperton Mills. Mr. Evans was a native of Milstead, Ga., in Rockd ale County. He was a member of the Pepperton Baptist Church and past master of the Worthville Lodge 127 of Masons. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Ethel Foster Evans; two sons, Jack Evans, Jimmy Allen Evans of Locust Grove; one daughter, Mrs. E. L. Elrod of Locust Grove; nine grandchild ren and one sister, Mrs. Floren ce Youngblood of Jackson. Funeral services will be con ducted Wednesday afternoon at 3 o’clock from the Pepperton Baptist Church. The Rev. H. P. McDonald will officiate and bur ial will be in the Pepperton ce metery with Masons in charge of graveside services. Haisten Funeral Home of Jackson Is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Oxford Buried Today Funeral services for Mr. Woodfin Grady Oxford of Wood bury were conducted this af ternoon at 3 o’clock from the Concord Baptist Church. The Rev. Tom Pilkenton and the Rev. Emory Collins officiated. Bur ial was in the old Hebron ceme tery near Concord. Haisten Funeral Home of Grif fin was in charge of arrange ments.
