was created after four Negro
prisoners surrendered to Mad
dox at a public reception in the
governor’s mansion last Sunday.
They complained of brutality at
the Wilkinson County prison
farm.

Film Sunday
“Riding The Pulpit,” a new
film will be shown at First Bap
tist Church at 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
This film was photographed in
Eastman Color in West Palm
Beach, Fla., the home of Dr.
Jess Moody, whose life story
provides the incidents around
which the film was made. Dr.
Moody will be the evangelist for
the revival at First Baptist
Church, May 1-7.
Riding The Pulpit picks up the
Moody story at 4 a.m. in a sm
all Texas town as Jess is begin
ning the delivery of the morn
ing paper. It traces his life
through college and seminary,
to the pastorate of a large chur
ch in Florida.

put out this morning by the
Griffin Fire Department. Dam
age was light.
Firemen answered a call to a
cleaning establishment on East
Solomon street Friday night
where a light fixture was da
maged.

A Griffin firm, Griffin’s doctors and the news media were presented plaques by the
Griffin National Guard Friday afternoon in recognition of their cooperation and
support. The plaques were presented by Lt. Col. Wayman Hutson (1) to (1-r) ohn
T. Newton, representing Dundee Mills; Dr. Virgil Williams, representing the doc
tors; Stan Watson of WGRI, Dewitt Simonton of WKEU and Fred Watkins of
WHIE. James Stewart accepted the award for the Griffin Daily News.
Mr. T. D. Lenhart
Dies At Hospital
Mr. Thomas Dalton Lenhart,
86 Hillcrest avenue, died early
Friday night at the Griffin-Sp
alding Hospital, where he had
been a patient for two days. .
Mr. Lenhart was born in King I
Mountain, N.C., and had made |
his home in Griffin for 51 ye-1
ars.
He was employed with Dundee
Mills for 40 years before retir
ing two years ago.
He was a member of the Me
thodist Church at Dillon. N.C.
He was a veteran of World War
One, serving in the infantry. He
was a member of American Le
gion Post 15.
Survivors include his widow,
Mrs. Susie Pitts Lenhart; two
daughters. Mrs. Roberta Glow
and Mrs. Kathleen Jennings; a
son, Thomas E. Lenhart; three
grandchildren, all of Griffin.
Funeral services will be con
ducted Sunday afternoon at 2
o’clock from the chapel of Pitt
man-Rawls Funeral Home. The
Rev. S. J. Wheeler will officiate
Burial will be in Oak Hill ceme
tery.
Mr. Lenhart’s body is at Pitt
man - Rawls Funeral Home.
Friends may visit the family at
the residence, 86 Hillcrest aven
ue, and at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. J. P. Jenning, 1131 Russell
drive.

Said Outmoded
SAVANNAH, Ga. (UPI) —
medical authorities have called
for replacement of “outmoded”
Batty Tuberculosis Hospital in
Rome.
Dr. Robert J. Anderson, med
ical director of the American
Thoracic Society in New York,
and Dr. William A. Hopkins,
Atlanta heart surgeon, spoke
Friday to the annual meeting of
the Georgia Tuberculosis Asso
ciation.
Mr. Mooney, 85,
Will Be Buried
Mr. Will Henry Mooney, 85.
died at noon Friday at the home
of his son. E. E. Mooney of Rou
te Four, Thomaston. He was
born in Meriwether County and
lived in Pike County for 30 ye
ars.
Mr. Mooney was a member of
the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in
Molena, Ga.. and was a retired
farmer.
Survivors include four daugh
ters. Mrs. Edna Hardy of Haw
kinsville, Ga., Mrs. Pearl Coch
ran of Woodbury, Mrs. Hilda
Gordy of Meansville,
Opal Reeves of Griffin; two sons,
Roy Mooney of Woodbury and
E. E. Mooney of Thomaston;
three brothers, Ernest Mooney.
Harvey Mooney, Buddy Mooney
of Alabama: 12 grandchildren,
25 great grandchildren, sever
al nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held
Sunday at 3:30 from the Mt. Ol
ive Baptist Church with the Rev.
Bob Williams and the Rev. Tho
mas H. Pllkenton officiating. Bu

The body will remain at Mc-
Donald Chapel until carried to
the church to lie in state 30
minutes before the funeral.
