Bedtime Make-up
For Added Allure
By PATRICIA KING
Beauty Editor
Mewspaper Enterprise Assn.
NEW YORK—(NEA)—The
ileanest, freshest face in town
should be yours at bedtime.
Even if you crawl in at 3
i.m., put on a headband, pull
ing the hair away from the
face, ears and nape and start
your complete scrubdown.
First remove eye make-up
and lipstick so they don’t
smear your face. With an up
ward motion massage cleans
ing cream into your face and
neck. Using cotton puffs
drenched in skin freshener,
shrink your pores and pat
your face dry before you ap
ply night cream.
A night cream’s job is to re
place the skin’s natural oils
during the night. But the
shiny, greasy face that makes
you look a sight and smudges
the pillows is not necessary.
Discover a cream that will do
the job with no mess.
However, if you crave the
glamorous look, why not apply
bedtime make-up after your
thorough cleansing?
Yes, there really is such a
thing. If you want a coy blush
try a tiny touch of color on
your cheeks by smoothing a
cream rouge across the cheek
bones for highlight.
Most eyebrows look droopy
without eye make-up. Pick a
natural shade of cake eye-
BEAUTY TIPS
Baby Shampoo for Tender Scalp
If you are one of the girls who has your hair straightened,
and there are many, you know that the process is hard on
your hair and scalp. A tender scalp needs tender, loving
laundering with mild baby shampoo. Baby shampoo prevents
penetration into the skin’s pores and further irritation to
your scalp. It also leaves your hair shiny clean and soft.
Schoolgirl's Best Friend: Grooming Kit
A locker-room grooming kit will be any schoolgirl’s best
friend. It can be any kind of small box fitted with an extra
comb, emery board, talcum powder, cream, tissues. Gals
might want to add a pretty scarf, headband or barrette foi
neat hair after swimming. Follow your after-gym shower with
an all-over dusting of powder to absorb moisture, and also,
sprinkle some inside your sneakers.

Me and the Baseball Star

I sat next to the nicest young man on the
plane from New York and we started talking
and 1 discovered he was a baseball player. I
haven’t been a mother of boys all these years
without learning something, so naturally I
got his autograph. Autographs, rather, be
cause Stu and Rick get along pretty well, but
they aren’t going to share an autograph.
At home, after we had gone through the
usual ritual (where the three little kids tear
the suitcase from my hands amidst warm,
welcoming cries of “What did you BRING
me?”), I remembered the notes.
“Oh, I have something else for you big
boys.” I said. “George Scott sent you his
autograph.”
“GEORGE SCOTT?”
“Boston RED SOX?”
I edged away a little bit. (I’m not used to
their dropping to their knees that way.)
“That’s what he said,” I said. “Now wait
’til I tell you about this TV studio I saw ...”
“What did he say?” Stu asked, pulling on
me and putting a rather nasty tear in my
sleeve. “How’d YOU meet him?”
“Well, I gave him some salt off my tray
and he gave me the cigarettes the airlines
hand out because he doesn’t smoke.”
“I’m NEVER going to smoke.”

brow make-up and brush it
on your brows to give them
shape. To be the girl with the
bedroom eyes doesn’t take too
much effort. Give your orbs a
nightly bath with eye drops
and see them sparkle.
Now I don’t suggest you
wear eyelashes every
night but there are occasions
in every girl’s life when she
wants extra allure. One com
pany features bedtime lashes
to be worn without Uner or
mascara.
For sleeping beauty hair
be sure to brush out the day’s
dust. And a word about those
ugly rollers ... at night they
just aren’t necessary. They’re
difficult to sleep in and are
romance killers. Wait until
he leaves for the office in the
morning, roll up and spray
hair for a quick set.
For a sweet-b looming
mouth, rinse with’your favor
ite wash and put on a natural
pale lipstick that doesn’t kiss

DEAR PAT—I don’t have
much natural color and even
though I wear make-up it
seems to fade quickly and
looks as though I never put
any on. How can I remedy
this?—Barbara F., Lima, Ohio.
DEAR BARBARA — Try
using a liquid blusher and
apply it after your foundation
but before your powder. After
powdering, use a powder
blusher for touch-ups and re
pair as often as necessary.—
Pat
“That’s the right idea, Stu. Now get up
... you’re making me nervous.”
"And,” I said (I never miss an opportunity
to teach), “he didn’t have coffee or a drink
... he had a soda.”
“What did he SAY?”
“Well, mainly we talked about his mother.”
“His MOTHER?”
“Listen,” I hissed. “He likes HIS mother.
He said so!”
‘Mother .. . you didn’t SAY anything .. .
I mean, you ACTED all right, didn’t you?”
I’ll say right here that I don’t think Stu
will ever have any faith in me. However, I
am not going to slap at him that way any
more.
I thought of sending George an apology.
Because when I met him I acted as though
he were merely a human being.
I am sorry I didn’t know he played first
base or that he was on the All-Star team for
the American League. Or that I didn’t know
he is a “real comer” or that “ail the rookies
this year hope they make it the way he has.”
Or that I didn’t check out his weight or any
of that real important stuff.
On second thought. I am not going to take
all the blame. It’s HIS fault. Why didn’t
he say, “Look, I am a Star,” and tip me ofl
to the questions Baseball Stars are asked?
After all, the least he could do is his part.
I mean, Great Scott!
