New Satellites
To Boost Watch
For A-Tests
By AL ROSSITER JR.
United Press International
CAPE KENNEDY (UPI) —
The United States launched a
pair of advanced Sentry satel
lites today to reinforce its
watch for sneak nuclear tests
anywhere from earth to beyond
Mars.
The twin "atomic detectives”
rode into space with three
hitchhiking midget moonlets on
the nose of a powerful Air
Force Titan 3C rocket that had
come within one second of
blastoff Tuesday.
Besides patrolling the sky for
bootleg violations of the nuclear
test ban treaty, the space
sentries may enhance Ameri
ca’s ability to monitor secret
atomic weapons tests in China.
Spectacular Launch
The triple-barreled Titan 3C
blasted into life at 5:01 a.m.
EST and raced into the predawn
darkness atop a brilliant column
of flame that illuminated the
spaceport. It was one of the
most spectacular nighttime
launches in years.
After shedding its two 1.2
million pound thrust solid fuel;
boosters with a bright flash of I
fire, the Titan dashed into Its I
preliminary orbit, trailing a red
and then bluish wake high over
the Atlantic.
“Congratulations, we’ve got a
good orbit,” Col. Otto Ledford,
commander of the 6555th
Aerospace Test Wing, told the
launch crew.
To get the glittering watchdog
satellites into their proper
orbits, reaching 69,000 miles
high, the Titan tackled a
difficult four-hour series of:
space acrobatics. The early j
stages of the five-in-one shot:
appeared flawless.
Equipped With Rockets
Each Sentry, shaped like a 26-
sided Chinese lantern, carried
its own rocket motor to zoom
into its final circular orbit on
command from ground control
lers. The final maneuver was
progra mm e d for Saturday
morning for the first satellite
and Monday for the second.

First In 116 Years
Holland Cheers
Birth Os A Son
By EDGAR BOTHE
United Press International ,
UTRECHT, The Netherlands :
(UPD —Crown Princess Bea
trix today won back the heart of
Holland by presenting the
nation with its first male heir to ,
the throne in 116 years.
A country ruled by queens for
77 years celebrated at the
prospect of a king which the
newspaper Trouw commented
“is a nearly mythological figure
in the Netherlands.”
About the only calm in
Holland lay in the local clinic
where the 29-year-old crown
princess, who offended not a
few by marrying a German,
and her one day old 8 pound,
7% uonce first born were re
ported “in all respects satis
factory.”
Like the wave of a fairy
godmother’s wand, the birth
appeared to observers to have
wiped out royal troubles that
plagued the House of Orange in
recent years.
There was the damage done
by the scandal over faith-healer
Greet Hofmans who was said to
hold too great an influence over
Queen Juliana. Three years ago
Beatrix’ sister Princess Irene
shocked the nation by joining
the Roman Catholic Church,
renouncing any right to the i
throne and marrying Spanish j
Prince Carlos Hugo against her
family’s wishes.
Beatrix did little to improve
the family’s wilting image when
she married ex-German soldier
and former Hitler youth mem
ber Claus von Arnsberg. 40. 14

The princess and Claus
worked hard to change the
trend. Von Arnsberg becam van
Arnsberg. He learned Dutch.
But few doubted the appearance
of the infant prince had turned
the trick.
Prime Minister Piet De Jong
hailed Thursday’s birth with
congratulations and added, "We
hope and expect that with the
of the House of Orange, our
national monarchy will exist
into the far future.”
Around the clinic crowds
stormed through grinning lines
of police.
The new prince at birth
became the Prince of Orange-
Nassau. When his mother takes
the throne as Holland’s third
successive queen he w’ill be

Crown Prince.
BLOOMIN’ PREDICAMENT
LONDON (UPI) — Antique
dealer Michael Rochford, 52,
purchased a truck full of
Victorian clothing at a recent
auction, but Thursday he was in
a quandry over what to do with
! one of the items.
"Trouble is,” he explained, “I
am finding it extremely difficult
to set a price. But I may offer
them to the Victoria and Albert
Museum as a gift to the
nation.” Them” was a pair of
Queen Victoria’s bloomers.
