Hold Monthly Meets
The Second Baptist Church
Circles met for their April meet- 1

Circle One !
Circle One met at the home of <
Mrs. Henry Miller. The scrip
ture was given and Mrs. Barney 1
Cunard, leader, read the mis- i
sionary calendar. Mrs. Reuben :
Hitchcock led in prayer. All '
committees gave reports. The ■
program, “Home and Foreign
Missions Work of the Brazilian
Baptist Convention” was presen
ted by Mrs. Ray Jones. Several '
members took part. The pro- ‘
gram was closed with prayer by
Mrs. J. B. Lindsey and Mrs. C.
J. Thompson. Twelve members,
one new member, Mrs. Mae Hol
land, and one visitor, Mrs. L. R.
Chalkley attended. A dessert I
course was served to the group
Circle Two
Circle Two met with Mrs. J.
B. Treadwell at her home. Mrs.
T. U. Merritt opened with pray
er. Mrs. Roy Jones, leader, pre
sided. The secretary report was
given by Mrs. Roy Golden. Oth
er committee chairmen gave
reports. In the absence of the
program chairman, Mrs. Rich
ard Brown, the program was gi
ven by Mrs. Roy Jones. The
meeting closed with prayer by
Mrs. W. O. Johnson. The hos-1

Circle Three
Circle Three met at the chur
ch. Mrs. Clifford Hudson open
ed with prayer. The program
was given by Mrs. Rollin Griffi
th. Mrs. Eugene Buckles, chair
man, was in charge of the busi
ness session. All reports were
given. Mrs. Doug Washington
led in prayer for the names on
the prayer calendar. A dessert
course was served to the six
members and one visitor pre
sent.
Circle Four
Mrs. Bobby Watts was hostess
to members of Circle Four. The
meeting was opened with pray
er. The program. “Missions In
Brazil” was presented by Mrs.
Bobby Watts. Mrs. Lewis Pryor,l
leader, presided. Mrs. Little Lif- '
sey closed with prayer. Refresh
ments were served to the s i x
members and one visitor, Mrs.
Paul Williamson.
Circle Five

Dudley Nicholson opened with
prayer. The leader, Mrs. Geor
ge Varner, presided. Mrs. E. E.
Gresham gave the secretary re
port. All committee chairmen
gave reports. Mrs. Bertie Fle
cher read the names on the pra
yer calendar and led in prayer.
The program was given by Mrs.
Frank Jones, program chair
man. The hostess served re
freshments to the six members
present. Mrs. Sam Crawford
will be the hostess for the May
meeting at her home.
Circle t>ix
Miss Martha Rivers, leader,
was hostess to Circle Six at her
home. Mrs. Hoarie Blalock pre
sented the program from Royal
Service. Miss Rivers conducted
the business session. All reports
were given. Mrs. Alvin Waller
closed with prayer. Refresh
ments were served to the four
members presnt.
Circle Seven
Circle Seven met at the chur
ch. Mrs. Nora Gatlin opened the
meeting with prayer. The pro
gram was a round table discus
sion on missions. Miss Gertrude
Harris offered prayer at the
close cf the discussion. Mrs. Len
nie Williford, leader, presided.
All reports were given. Eight
: members were present.
Circle Eight
Mrs. Walter Mooney was hos
tess to Circle Eight at her home.
The meeting opened with the
I prayer calendar being read by
Mrs. Alberta Jones. Mrs. J. P.
Coats, circle leader, was in char
ge of the business session. The
secretary report was given by
Mrs. Sam V. Jones. The pro
gram was presented from Royal
Service by Mrs. Wyman Merritt.
The meeting closed with pray
er. During the social period a
dessert course was served to the
seven members and one visitor.
Circle Ten
Circle Ten met at the home of
I Mrs. H. R. Davis. Mrs. H. H.
Rider presented the program
from Royal Service. She was as
sisted by Mrs. Hoarse Head and
■ Mrs. Rebecca Roper. The circle
' leader, Mrs. Rebecca Roper,
was in charge of the business
session. All committees gave re
ports. The meeting closed with
prayer. Refreshments were ser
ved during the social period by
Mrs. Davis.

Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Matthews

Weds Mr. Matthews
The Faith Temple Assembly
of God Church was the scene
Saturday, April 22, at 6 p.m. for
the marriage of Mrs. Sandra
Coleman of Griffin to Mr. Curtis
Matthews of Hampton. The Rev.
Clarence Jackson performed the
double ring ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. William Crane of
Griffin and the groom Is the son
of Mrs. Pearl Matthews of
Hampton.
The church was decorated with
a center arrangement of white
chrysanthemums and glaldioli.
Two fran shaped ferns were us
ed on each side. Two seven
branched candelabra holding
white tapers were used on each
side in the background. The
candelabra were entwined with
ivy.
Mrs. Sara Jimerson, organist,
presented a program of nuptial
music. Mrs. Clarence Jackson,
soloist, sang “I Love You Tru
ly” and for the benediction she
sang “The Lord’s Prayer”. Mrs.
Jackson and Mrs. Jimerson sang
“Whither Thou Goest”.
Mr. Cary Daniel of Thomas
ton, cousin of the groom, was
best man. Ushers were Mr. Bill
Hawkins and Mr. Clifford Ray
Jackson. The ushers lighted the
candles
Mrs. Betty Evans, sister of the
bride, was matron of honor. She
wore a street length dress of
yellow linen. The dress featur
ed a sweetheart neckline and
lace sleeves. Her nose length
I veil was attached to a yellow
band with tiny white flowers.
Her accessories were white. She
carried a nosegay of white car
nations and lilies of the valley
and yellow streamers. She wore
a single strand of pearls, a gift
from the bride.
The bride was escorted down
the aisle by her father, Mr.
William Crane. She wore a street
length dress of ice blue lace
and chiffon. The lace bodice fea
tured long sleeves. The skirt wks
chiffon over taffeta. Her nose
length veil of ice blue was at
tached to a small band with
lilies of the valley. She wore
ice blue accessories. Her cas
cade bouquet was of white car
nations and lilies of the valley
tied with satin streamers.
Mrs. Crane, mother of the
bride, chose a two piece navy
suit with white accessories. Her
corsage was a pink orchid.
Mrs. Matthews, mother of the
groom, wore a dress of blue and
beige. Her accessories were
brown and she wore a yellow

Miss Vickie Evans, niece of
the bride, kept the bride’s book.
She wore a yellow dress of chif
fon and taffeta. Her corsage was
white carnations.
The bride’s book table was co
vered with a white linen cloth
edged in lace. Yellow ribbon and
yellow and orange flowers were
used around the edge of the clo
th. A yellow candle was used on
the table.
Following the ceremony a re
ception was held at the home of
the bride and groom in Hamp
ton.
The bride’s table was covered
with a white lace cloth and held
the five tiered wedding cake,
which was topped with wedding
bells.
The house was decorated with
mums and gladioli.
Miss Laura Jean Jackson and
Miss Mary Corley served at the
reception.
For a wedding trip the bride
wore a white suit featuring a
black patent belt. Her accessor
ies were black patent. She wore
the white carnations lifted from
her bouquet.
Mr. and Mrs. Matthews will
reside on Main street in Hamp
ton.
Prior to the wedding a shower
was given by the employees of
Commercial Bank on Thursday
morning, April 20.
A shower was given Thursday
evening, April 20, by Mrs. Clar
ence Jackson and Mrs. Aileen
Thompson at Faith Temple As
sembly of God Church.
Cyndy Childs
Celebrates
10th Birthday
Cyndy Childs celebrated her
10th birthday with a skating par
ty at the Silver Skates Roller
Rink. She is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. J. A. Childs, 1343 Oak
dale drive.

Has Meeting
Miss Janice Farmer, home
economist, gave an informative
demonstration on the care of
floors at the April meeting of
the Griffin Home Economio
Club. She explained the types of
waxes ano ‘he proper procedur
es in waxing and cleaning floors.
The meeting was held at the
Rural Urban Center. Mrs. Carol
Smith, president, presided. Mrs.
Sarah Marshall gave the devo
tional.
Mrs. Martha Thornton gave
the secretary’s and treasurer’s
reports. The members voted to
change the meeting time to 8 p.
m. during the summer months.
Mrs. Carol Smith and Mrs.
Anne Howard were hostesses.
Members present were Mrs.
Jeanette Rhodes, Mrs. Martha
Thornong, Mrs. Carol Smith,
Mrs. Jeanelle Green, Mrs. Jane
Gatlin, Mrs. Alma Underwood,
