Brenda Coates Weds
Billy Armistead
Calvary Baptist Church was
the scene Saturday, May 13, at
4 p.m. for the marriage of Miss
Brenda Ryan Coates to Staff
Sergeant Billy Wayne Arm
steod. The double ring ceremony
was performed by the Rev.
Paul Wade.
The bride is me aaughfcr of
Mrs. Ruby Coates and Mr. J.
W. Coates, both of Griffin. The
groom is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Robert Armistead of Grif
fin.
The church was decorated with
an arch of magnolia blooms and
leaves with a wedding bell in
center. Candelabra were used
on each side of the arch. The
candelabra were decorated with
ivy.
Miss Nancy Waits, organist,
presented a program of nuptial
music. Mr. Tommy Payton, sol
oist, sang “Whither Thou Go-
Prayer” as the couple knelt in
prayer.
Mr. Bobby Glower of Hamp
ton, brother-in-law of the groom,
was best man. Mr. Dwight Coa
tes, brother of the bride, and
Mr. Marvin Arwood, cousin of
the groom, were ushers.
Master Robbie Glower of
Hampton, nephew of the groom,
was ring bearer. He carried a
heart shaped pillow with love
knot streamers.

Little Miss Donna Coates of
Griffin, niece of the bride, was
flower girl. She wore a floor
length gown of pink brocade
with empire waist and round
neckline. Her veil was of pill
box design. She wore white glo
ves and shoes. Her nosegay was
of pink carnations, white pom
poms with pink ribbon stream
ers.
Mrs. Gloria Coates of Griffin,
sister-in-law of the bride, was
matron of honor. She wore a
floor length gown of pink bro
cade with empire waist and
round neckline. Her veil was
attached to a pillbox. She wore
matching shoes and long white
gloves. She carried a single red
rose with green velvet stream
ers.
Maid of honor was Miss Dian
ne Coates, sister of the bride.
She wore a floor length gown
of mint green brocade with em
pire waistline and round neck
line. Her veil was attached to a
pillbox. She wore matching sho
es and long white gloves. She
carried a single pink rose with
green velvet streamers.
Bridesmaid was Mrs. Sheila
McPherson of Griffin. Her floor
length gown was of yellow bro
cade with empire waist and
round neckline. Her veil was
attached to a pillbox and she
wore matching shoes and long
white gloves. She carried a sin
gle yellow rose with green vel
vet streamers.
The bride, given in marriage
by her brother, Mr. Wandell
Coates, wore a wedding gown of
lace over taffeta. The gown sea-

A reception was held in the
church fellowship hall following
the wedding.
The bride’s table held the four
• tiered wedding cake, which was
topped with a miniature bride
and groom. The two punch bowls

I and ivy.

Wanda Lampeli, cousin of the
bride, served cake and punch.
Mrs. Louise Glower of Hamp
ton, sister of the groom, kept

Ricky Clower, nephew of the
’ groom, gave out rice bags.
For a wedding trip to North
Carolina the bride chose a two
piece beige knit suit trimmed
in lace. She wore matching ac
cessories. Her corsage was the
orchid lifted from her bouquet.

VIOLENT QUAKES
JAKARTA (UPI> — At least
14 persons died and more than
2,000 homes W'ere destroyed
when a series of earthquakes
rocked Atjeh in North Sumatra,
the official Antara news agency
said Thursday.
Antara said the quakes were
the "most violent” in the
region's history and shook it for
four consecutive days.

Business and Professional Wo
men’s Luncheon Club of Griffin.
Mrs. Penny gave a talk on chi
na, crystal and silver, and had
several place settings on dis
play. Miss Linda Pryor’s name
was drawn for a gift given by
Mrs. Penny.
The speaker was introduced by
Mrs. Florence Williams, pro
gram chairman.
Mrs. Florence Williams and
Mrs. Jean Reeves did a skit on
“It’s the Law! An honest con
fession may be good for the soul,
but not for the FBI,” in obser
vance of Peace Officer Week.
The meeting was held at Lu-
Ann’s Restaurant with the pre
sident, Mrs. Bernice Stinchcomb,
presiding.
Miss Bernice Wise won the
attendance prize.
Guests attending were Mr s.
Evelyn Penny, Mrs. Frances
McCarley and Mrs. Annette Er
win.
