der Slaughter of Detroit, Mich.,
will be conducted Saturday mor
ning at 11 o’clock from the Mt.

ch on Third street, Griffin. El
der T. H. Daniel will officiate
and burial will be in the Union
cemetery.
Mr. Slaughter's body arrived
in Griffin today and was carried
to the home of his sister, Mrs.
Mamie Williams, in Experiment,
to remain until the funeral hour.
Survivors include two sisters,
| Mrs. Mamie Williams of Experi
ment, Mrs. Ruth Jones of Grif
fin; and several nieces and nep
hews.
Crockett Funeral Home is in
charge of local arrangements.

Lions Install
Officers
For 1967-68
Officers of the Griffin Lions
Club were installed at an instal
lation ceremony held Thursday
night at the Griffin Moose Club.
Lemuel Watkins was install
ed president (see picture page
one). He succeeds Harry S. Cop
per.
The new officers were install
ed by Frank Holberg of the Se
noia Lions Club, who is an Inter
national Counselor and past dis
trict governor.
A musical program was pre
sented by Mrs. Donald Harper,
who sang several songs. She wan
accompanied by Miss Diane Gar
dner.
Sixty-five Lions and their gu
ests attended the meeting.
Achievements of the club dur
ing the last year include:
Purchase of 21 pairs of glass
es; 16 eye donations made, giv
ing the club a total of 33; Inter
national Essay for Peace con
test, Miss Jan Hammock won
first and Miss Ann Blakeney, se
cond; held two light bulb sales
and one broom sale: operated
concession stand at the stadium;
sponsored a boy to Boys State;
gained honorable mention for 100
percent participation in Geor
gia Lions Light House Founda
tion; hosted the District Assem
bly with over 500 in attendance;
worked in cooperation with the
Chamber of Commerce in re
modeling of Welcome to Griffin
signs.

daughter on June 22 at the Grif
fin-Spalding County Hospital.

Mr. and Mrs. Alan O. Maier
of LaFayette, La., announce
the birth of a son, James Alan,
on June 15. Mrs. Maier is the
former Miss Virginia Bowen of
Griffin. The baby is the grand
daughter of Mrs. James Young
Bowen and the late Mr. Bowen.
Faith Revival
Begins Sunday
Revival services will begin
Sunday and continue through Fri
day night at the Faith Baptist
Church on East Mclntosh road.
The Rev. Worth Huckaby, pas
tor of the Shadnor First Baptist
Church, will be the evangelist.
Services will be held each
evening at 7:30. Special music
will be provided during the week
by visiting groups.

Griffin Civil Air Patrol mem
bers were among the 500 attend
ing the southeastern regional
conference in Hollywood, Fla.
The Georgia Wing, under the
leadership of Col. Ted Limmer,
came up from 43rd place in 1964
to 10th place in 1966. The high
light of the conference for the
Georgia Wing was the presen
tation of the safety award and
trophy. This was the culmination
of the combined effort of each
Squadron throughout Georgia
emphasizing safety especially in
the aviation field.
Those attending from the Grif
fin Squadron were Maj. Jack
Landham, Jr., First Lt. Guy
Howard, Second Lt. Lou Howard,
Second Lt. Bob White, S-M Bet
ty White, Cadet Capt. Jack Land
ham 111 and c-2 Ronald Crouch.
Valdosta Names
Lansdell Asst.
Administrator
George Lansdell, who has ser
ved as comptroller of the Griffin-
Spalding County Hospital, has
meen named assistant administ
rator of Pineview General Hos
pital at Valdosta.
Lansdell will assume his new
duties on July 1. He will leave
Griffin Monday.
Mr. and Mrs. Lansdell have
made their home on Hamilton
boulevard in Sun Valley Subdiv
ision while in Griffin. They are
the parents of a daughter.

ministrator Carl A. Ridley said
several prospects have been
interviewed for the comptroller
job, but no one has been selec
ted.
Griff inite’s
Lost Sister
In California
C. D. Higgins of 150 Spalding
street, Griffin, has received the
first word from his sister, Mrs.
Stella Smick, since about 1944.
She makes her home in Marys
bille, Calif., and wrote Sheriff
Dw’ayne Gilbert asking him to
help her locate her brother.
Mr. Higgins who is a security
man at a Griffin industrial plant
formerly worked as a guard at
the Central State Hospital at
Milledgeville. He retired several
years ago and joined the Advan
ce Security Co. of Atlanta. The
company handles the security
for Holan Co. here.
Mr. Higgins plans to telephone
his sister in California.
Fire Destroys Barn
On Fayetteville Rd.
The Spalding County Forestry
Unit reported an alarm to a
barn fire on the Fayetteville
road at 7:15 p.m. Thursday ni
ght.
Cause of the fire was unkn
own and Rangers reported it was
a complete loss. The barn, con
taining corn, was owned by J. I
O. Spoon.

speak at the Youth for Christ
meeting on Saturday night,
at 7:45 p. m., at the Stuckey
auditorium. The Rev. Shee
han was a former pastor of
Highland Baptist Church
during his early ministry. He
was also pastor in Louisiana,
Mississippi, Texas and others
in Georgia.
