Are you sometimes hardboil
ed about eating an egg with a
blood spot? Well, in some cases
you’ve got good reason to be.
When there are large amounts
of blood in the egg white, for
Instance, there is more than just
a likelihood of bacterial infec
tion, Luckily, though, most eggs
in this condition are caught in
the candling process and hard
ly ever reach our homes.
The other kind of blood spot,
found in the yolk of egg, isn’t
at all dangerous and can be
safely removed. It seems after
all, that in these areas, at least
there’s no such thing as telling

Scorched
Iron
DEAR POLLY — The simp
lest way I know to solve the
scorched iron bottom problem, is
using white vinegar on a cloth
to clean it. After a little rub
bing, it looks like new. — D.Z.S.
DEAR POLLY — I would like
to suggest that Mary take a he
avy piece of brawn paper (a
grocery bag will do), put a ta
blespoon of salt on it, heat the
iron, press and rotate back and
forth until the burned-on stuff
disappears. Then take a piece
of candle and rub over the warm
Iron to make it slick and nice
for ironing. — WILMA.
GIRLS — Do bo sure all the
candle wax is cff your iron be
fore you start or there may be
greasy spots on the next thing
you iron. — POLLY.
DEAR POLLY — The lltttle
wire twisters that come on br
ead bags are very nice for hold
ing climbing vines on a stick.
Just twist as you would around
the bread wrapper. If the stick
support is a large one put three
or four of these together, then
twist and have a neat-looking
vine. — PEGGY.
DEAR POLLY — I had a time
Keeping the blades or cutters
on my electric can opener clean
after opening cans. Now, after
using the opener, I run through
a paper towel and it Is amaz
ing how clean the blades are,—
MRS. J.P.
DEAR GIRLS — I was really
mortified to find how much goo
was on the blades of my elec
tric can opener. I folded a paper
towel in fourths, held in it place
like a can and turned the cur
rent on so the accumulation was
left on the towel. — POLLY.
DEAR POLLY — If the switch
on such an electric appliance
as an iron or sewing machine is
turned off, is there any harm
in leaving the appliance plugged
in the socket? sometimes I have
noticed a slight quiver in an ap
pliance even though the switch
was turned off. — GRACE,
