Georgia’s Accident
Death Toll At Nine
By United Press International
Georgia’s weekend accidental
death count now stands at nine
with eight traffic fatalities and
one drowning.
An Infant was killed in Met
ter when a vehicle operated by
an 11-year-old girl started at a
high rate of speed and crashed
into a tree.
Authorities identified the vic
tim as 23 - month-old Yancy
Harley.
The highway patrol reported
Johnny Wayne Rice, 27, of
Dawsonville, died Sunday of in
juries he sustained in an acci
dent last month. Rice had been
hospitalized since he was in a
head-on collision south of Daw
sonville last month.
Dennis S. Padilla, 27, of Sa
vannah, was killed Sunday
when his car went through a
stop sign and struck another

Alex Goodin, 38, of Carrollton
died Sunday when his car ran
off Interstate 20 and struck a
bridge south of Douglasville.
An accident north of Ft. Val
ley on Georgia 49 claimed the
life of Robert Donald Minolen
on Saturday. Police said the 19-
year-old Warner Robbins youth
was killed when he swerved
his car to avoid one collision
and hit another vehicle.
Robert Eugene Hilley, 32, of
Mableton, was killed Friday
night when he lost control of
his car in Smyrna and hit a
utility pole.
James William Boatright, 23,
of Bristol, died Friday night,
when he lost control of his car
on Georgia 15 south of Baxley
while passing another vehicle.
A Grantville man, 36-year
old, Joe Perry was killed when
he was struck by a hit-and-run
driver Friday night on Georgia
54 west of Luthersville.
Georgia's drowning fatality
was 18-year -old Jimmy Hol
brook of Toccoa. He drowned in
Lake Hartwell near Toccoa
Sunday.
Six Arrested
After Raid
On Nightclub
GAINESVILLE, Ga. (UPD—
Six persons were arrested after
a raid on a Forsyth County
night club late Saturday by
agents from the Georgia Bu
reau of Investigation and the
state Revenue Dept.
Robert Edward Gilstrap Sr.,
56, of Gainesville, owner of the
El Toro Club, was charged wih
four counts of selling whisky
without a license, selling beer
without a license, possession of
liquor and furnishing liquor to
minors. He was set free under
a $2,000 bond.
Shirley Ann Bridges, 23, of
Dahlonega, and Claude G.
Chastain, 29, of Juno, were
charged with drunkenness and
contributing to the delinquency
of minors.
The two minors’ names were
withheld. An unidentified wait
ress was also arrested.
The night club is located on
state Highway 53 between Cum
ming and Gainesville.

Guardsmen Head
To Ft. Stewart
FT. STEWART, Ga. (UPD—
Truck convoys from 65 widely
scattered Georgia communities
converged on Ft. Stewart Sun
day for the opening of a sum
mer training period for the
Georgia Army National Guard
48th Armored Division.
This marks the 12th consecu
tive annual encampment at Ft.
Stewart of the 8,000 member
Hurricane Division.
Commanded by Major-Gen
eral Benjamin F. Merript who
m civilian life is mayor of Ma
con, the division will be re
viewed Saturday morning, July
22, by Gov. Lester Maddox.
Maddox is the division’s Com
mander-in-Chief.
Governor’s Day ceremonies
will begin at 8:30 a.m. Satur
day with a speech by Gov. Les
ter Maddox on the Donovan Pa
rade Grounds. The massed bri
gade, battalion, and separate
units of the division will then
pass in review for a formal in
spection.
About one-third of the guards

The convoys brought men
and equipment from cities as

Convention.
Thompson said Callaway had
“done so much for the GOP in
Georgia” and deserved the ges
ture as an honor.
Callaway received more pop
ular votes than Lester Maddox
in the 1967 Georgia gubernator
ial election but Maddox won
the office when the contest
went to the predominately

The congressman made the
