Fire Captain Gets
‘Language’ Fine
ROME, Ga. (UPD—Fire De
partment Capt. Henry L. John
son, a 23 - year veteran fire
fighter, has been fined a week’s
pay for using profane language
on the department’s two- way
radio, but plans an appeal in
superior court.
In a 2 to 1 decision Tuesday,
the Civil Service Board agreed
to suspend a week’s pay as
punishment for violation of a
rule which says no firemen or
policeman can commit an act
that discredits him or his de
partment.
Charges were brought against
Johnson by Fire Chief R. L.
Force, who cited three different
occasions when he said John
son used foul language on the
radio or in a telephone conver
sation. Attorneys said Johnson,
who admitted to the charges,
will probably appeal the pun
ishment.
