Boys and girls in Spalding County who are between
the ages of nine and 19 and members of a 4-H Club this
week joined in the observance of National 4-H Week.
“4-H: A World of Opportunity” is the theme for the
week this year. Hundreds of opportunities are offered
for boys and girls through the 4-H programs.
4-H members “learn by doing” how to raise animals,
plant flowers, make dresses, cook meals, take pictures,
fix cars, help their friends, control weeds, beautify the
country, manage money and build for tomorrow.
Each 4-H meber has a project and has a goal of win
ning a state 4-H project championship and the right to
represent Georgia at the National 4-H Congress in Chi
cago. Os course, the number who fail to reach the top
goal is much greater than those who achieve them.
Much of the school year is spent in preparing projects
and records for the project achievement meetings in the
spring. The 4-Hers in Georgia have one of the largest
and best camps in the world at Rock Eagle for their dist
rict and state activities.
Many Spalding County 4-Hers will have some of their
work and animals on display next week at the Spalding
County Fair. Each member works on his particular pro
ject and keeps records.
These young people of Spalding County are striving
“To Make The Best Better” through “A World of Op
portunity” in a 4-H Club.
