Mr. McLeod Is a native of
Shotts, Scotland, having come
to the United States in 1955 to
study in Phoenix, Ariz. Prior
to his moving to this country,
Mr. McLeod completed his edu
cation in grammar school, high
school and college of engineer
ing in Scotland. He received his
bachelor of arts degree from
Grand Canyon College in Phoe
nix and a bachelor of divinity
degree from New Orleans Bap
tist Theological Seminary in
New Orleans, La.
Mr. McLeon served as pastor
of the First Baptist Church in
Fort Oglethorpe, Ga., before
joining the staff at his present
church.
20 Japanese
Get Red Carpet
ATLANTA (UPD— Georgia’s
caiptal city has rolled out the
red carpet for a group of, 20
businessmen from the Japanese
state of Kagoshima on a three
day tour.
The Japanese businessmen
were made honorary citizens of
Georgia after being welcomed
by Secretary of State Ben W.
Fortson. Fortson and the group
exchanged state flags.
The group also toured WSB
radio and television station, sis
ter station to MBC radio and
television in Kagoshima.
Man Picked Up
On Theft Count
ATLANTA (UPD— The FBI
said Thursday it had arrested
Vaney Russell, 38, of Atlanta on
a peace warrant issued Oct. 4
at Macon.
Agents said Russell failed to
appear for arraignment in U.S.
District Court in Macon Oct. 2
on charges of interstate trans
portation of stolen property
which involved the passage of
stolen money orders.

Mr. Gatlin
Dies Thursday
Mr. James Henry Gatlin, 43,
of 157 Melton street, was dead
on arrival at the Griffin-Spald
ing County Hospital Thursday
night after suffering an appar
ent heart seizure. Mr. Gatlin suf
fered his first heart seizure in
July, 1967.
He was born and reared in Sp
alding County, the son of the late
Carl Gatlin and the late Vera
Reed Gatlin. Mr. Gatlin was a
foreman at Dundee Mills No.
One and was a member of the
Second Baptist Church.
Survivors include his widow,
Mrs. Mildred Lacy Gatlin; a
daughter. Miss Beverly Gatlin,
both of Griffin; and his step-mo
ther, Mrs. Carl Gatlin of Vau
ghn.
Funeral services will be con
ducted Sunday afternoon at 3:30
o’clock from Haisten’s Chapel
with the Rev. Hartwell Kenne
dy officiating. Burial will be in
Oak Hill cemetery. Mr. Gat
lin’s body will remain at Hals
ten Funeral Home.

Elect Officers
The Fourth Ward 4-H Club
held its meeting Monday in the
school auditorium.
The 4-H pledge was given
and membership cards were dis
tributed. During the business
session new officers for the 1967-
68 school year were elected. New
officers are president, Dee Lang
ford; vice-president, Jennie Hen
derson; secretary, Julia Farr;
parliamentarian, Gloria Craw
ford; and reporter, Ann Slade.
Following the election the
group was led in songs by t h e
song leaders. Miss Ophelia Car
den was assisted during the
meeting by Mrs. Alice White.

and serves as a trustee of the
Georgia Baptist Children’s

Powell Named
To Committee

mittee of the American Cham

today at the organization’s 53rd
annual conference in Saint Paul,
Minn.
As a member of this group, he j

cations on the planning of addi
tional issues to aid the local
manager.
Atlanta Symphony
ATLANTA (UPI) — The 22nd
season of the Atlanta Symphony
Orchestra began Thursday night
at Municipal Auditorium.
New music director Robert
Shaw conducted the concert,
which considted of the overture
to “Die Meistersinger non Nurn
berg’’ by Wagner, Canticle of
Freedom by Aaron Copland and
Symphony No. 9 in D minor by
Beethoven.
The concert also featured the
Choral Guild of Atlanta with
soprano Ella Lee, mezzo sopra
no Beverly Woolff, tenor Seth
McCoy and bass Ezio Flagello.

Two Men Held In
Shipment Theft
ATLANTA (UPI) — The FBI
said Thursday it had arrested
John Russell Malone and Jo
seph Jackson for the theft of an
interstate shipment from the
Deaton Truck Line.
Malone was charged with the
possession of goods moving
from Clinton, Miss., to Galax,
Va., and Jackson was accused
of possessing goods moving
from Calhoun, Miss., to Talla
hassee, Fla.
