The Griffin High PTA will
sponsor a barbecue tonight
from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Griffin
High School cafeteria. The tick
ets will be sold for $1.25. College
night will be observed immedia
tely following the barbecue and
a short PTA business meeting

KIWANIS CLUB
The speaker for the Farm-City
Week program of the Griffin Ki
wanis Club will be Henry M. Si
mons, Jr., executive director of
the Georgia Agribusiness Coun
cil. The Kiwanis meet on Wed
nesday at 12:15 p.m. at the Elks

Women of the Moose will meet

THANKSGIVING PARTY
The Griffin Aerie of the Fra
ternal Order of Eagles will have
their annual Thanksgiving party
tonight at the Eagles Club on
West Solomon street. All mem
bers are Invited to attend.
Guests of members will ba ad
mitted free. The social hour will
begin at 7 p.m. and supper will
be served at 8 p.m.

Mrs. Jordan
Dies Monday
Mrs. Rosa Kate Green Jor
dan of 615 West Poplar street
died at Griffin-Spalding County
Hospital Monday afternoon
where she had been a patient
for the past month.
Mrs. Jordan was a lifelong re
sident of Spalding County, dau
ghter of the late John F. Green
and the late Eula McLendon
Green. She was a member of
the First Baptist Church.
Survivors Include her husband,
Lewis H. Jordan; one son, Le
wis H. Jordan, Jr.; three grand
children, Lewis H. Jordan 111,
Miss Beth Jordan and Miss Peg
gy Jordan; a brother, John H.
Green of Atlanta and several
nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be con
ducted Wednesday afternoon at
2 o’clock from Halsten’s chapel.
The Rev. Alastair C. Walker will
officiate and burial will be in
Oak Hill cemetery. Mrs. Jor
dan’s body remains at Halsten
Funeral Home.

In Lamar County Fire
The Spalding County Forestry
Unit reported answering an al
arm to a woods fire In Lamar
County Monday afternoon at 1:30
p.m.
Rangers reported approxima
tely eight acres were burned.

Mrs. King Os
Flovilla Dies
Mrs. Clara Collier King, 71, of
Flovilla, died at Sylvan Grove
Hospital in Jackson Monday ni
ght after a short illness.
She was a retired employe of
Southern Railway System. Mrs.
King had lived in Flovilla since
1944 and was a member of the
Flovilla Methodist Church.
Mrs. King Is survived by two
sisters, Mrs. Frances Greek of
Forsyth and Mrs. Virginia Jon
es of Macon; and a grandson,
Ralph King of Atlanta.
Funeral services will be held
at 2 o'clock Wednesday after
noon from Halsten’s chapel in
Jackson. The Rev. Ed Galloway
will officiate and burial will be

Mrs. Slagle Dies
In South Africa
Mrs. W. R. Slagle, wife of the
Rev. W. R. Slagle, died Mon
day at Cape Town, South Afri
ca after an illness of several
months.
Funeral services and burial will
be Wednesday in Cape Town.
The Rev. and Mrs. Slagle for
merly lived in Griffin. He was
pastor of the Calvary Baptist
Church In Barnesville. They
moved to South Africa 10 years
ago where Mr. Slagle’s son is
associated with Burlington Mills.
The Rev. Slagle was associa
ted with the firm also until ill
health forced him to retire.

Mrs. Slagle is survived by two
daughters, Wanda and Sue Sla
gle; and two sons, Billy and
David Slagle.
