ATHENS, Ga. (UPI) — The
Liberty Bowl • bound Georgia
Bulldogs held a light workout
Tuesday in preparation for their
post - season encounter with
North Carolina State Dec. 16.
Coach Vince Dooley says
Georgia won’t be able to work
as much as he’d like.
"We will be unable to do as
much work as we would like
due to the reassignments of our
coaching staff and the class
schedule of our players,”
Dooley said.

Coaching Record
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (UPD—
Adolph Rupp, the basketball
baron from the University of
Kentucky, needs only 10 more
victories this season to reach a
coveted personal goal which
would make him the winningest
college coach in history.
Rupp, now In his 38th season
at Kentucky, is within reach of
the record of 771 victories set
by his old college coach—
Forrest "Phog” Allen. Allen,
who retired after 42 years at
Kansas, coached Rupp in the
early 19205.
Through last season Rupp’s
record was 760 wins and 165
losses for a .822 winning
percentage—best among the
active coaches.
His Wildcats have won two
games this season, placing him
within nine of Allen.
A study of head coaches
records at 182 major colleges by
Elmore Hudgens, information
director of the Southeastern
Conference shows Joe Mullaney
of Providence as the runner-up
percentage-wise with a .779
mark. Mullaney’s teams have
won 264 and lost 75 in his 13
season.
Hank Iba, the ball-control
tactician from Oklahoma State,
is next to Rupp in victories
among the active coaches with
731. Iba’s teams have lost 297—
giving him a percentage of .711.
Johnny Wooden, who has
guided UCLA to three national
titles in the last four years, is
third in percentage with 438
victories, 149 losses and a mark
of .746. Wooden has coached for
21 years.
Rounding out the top ten are
Frank McGuire of South Caroli
na, Jack Gardner of Utah, Tex
Winter of Kansas State, Harry
Lit wackos Temple, Ray Meyer
of DePaul and Lou Rossini of
New York University.
Albany State
Tops Rattlers
ALBANY, Ga. (UPI) — Al
bany State beat Florida A&M
94-88 Tuesday night with Wil
bur Jones scoring 28 and Mac
Daugherty 25.
The victory gave Albany
State a sweep of the two-game
series, and a 4-1 season record.
Al Lawson scored 24 points
for A&M.

Mississippi State’s journey to
the nation’s midlands ended in
near disaster Tuesday night
when the Bulldogs fell to the
Wichita State Shockers 97-67 in
a game at Wichita, Kan.
In the only other game in
volving a major basketball
power from the Southeast Tues
day night, Southern Mississippi
pushed its victory streak to two
games when the Ladner broth
ers led a 106-78 victory over
Southeastern Louisiana.
In actions tonight, Xavier
goes to Kentucky, Arkansas

Dayton’s basketball team left
Louisville after last season’s
NCAA final more or less
content at being No. 2 in the
nation behind UCLA.
Don Donoher’s Flyers also
wound up No. 2 Tuesday night
as Miami of Ohio shocked the
sixth-ranked Flyers 64-61 at
Dayton, despite 24 points and 18
rebounds by 6-foot-4 Don May.
Miami, expected to try and
catch Marshall and Toledo in
the Mid-American Conference
race, pulled out of a 59-all tie on
Phil Snow’s field goal with 1:50
remaining in the game and
hung on for their second
straight victory.
Princeton Tops Villanova
Two of the East’s power
houses also romped Tuesday
night with seventh - ranked
Princeton ripping Villanova 77-
52 and ninth-rated Boston
College routing Dartmouth 116-
69, in the only other games
involving the nation’s top 10.
Accuracy on the foul line paid
off as Miami’s Redskins hit 18
of 21 and made good on 49 per
cent of their field goal
attempts. Fred Foster’s 22
points led the way.
Princeton, under new coach
Pete Carril, riddled Villanova’s
zone defense on the outside
shooting of Joe Heiser and Jeff
Petrie and stymied the Wild
cats’ Johnny Jones, who was
limited to 11 free throws.
Heiser scored 19 points,
Petrie 18 and John Harlow 14
as the Tigers connected on 52
per cent from the field while
Villanova shot a poor 25 per
cent at Princeton, N.J.
