POLLY’S POINTERS
Garment Bags
DEAR POLLY — I spray pa
per towels or facial tissuee with
a commercial product used for
dusting furniture and floors. For
the final polish, I use plastic
garment bags. This crumpled,
soft plastic bag catches all the
extra bits of lint or dust, gives
an extra shine, is easy to use
and is disposable. — MRS. R.T.
DEAR POLLY — I suggest
that Nancy try a baking soda
and water paste on the black
marks on her hammered silver
Mexican tray. I find that apply
ing this paste with an old tooth
brush takes the black marks off
almost everything. When the
black is gone, rinse well with
clear warm water and polish
with a soft cloth. — SANDY
DEAR POLLY — I find old
newspapers are useful for pol
ishing my silver tea kettle and
other pots. Moisten the news
paper, dip in a little soda and
rub the spot. With a fresh pa
per, rub the spot again and even
a third time if necessary. This
is also the way I remove cof
fee stains and smoke from pans
after a camping trip. — GLEN
DAY
DEAR GIRLS — Some black
marks on silver are pit marks
that go through the silver finish

DEAR POLLY — My metal
kitchen cabinets are getting rus

done to prevent this. Thank you
for the privilege of taking part
in your column. — MRS. A.C.
DEAR POLLY — My coffee
table, end tables and dining ta
ble all showed scars of careless
and thoughtless teen-agers and
guests. There were rings from
damp glasses that somehow
missed the provided coasters
but an English house guest sa
ved me the expense I had anti
cipated for having them refin

a soft cloth, minor elbow grease,
a peculiar medicinal odor for a
few hours and my tables look
ed new again. It is great.—MßS.
