ough. The girls’ score was 47-40
and the boys’ score was 51-37.
Our girls, team won the game
Monday night against Booker
High of Barnesville of 36-24 while
our boys were defeated, 60-58.
Both teams journeyed to Forsy
th. Wednesday night to play Hub-
bard High.

The Student Council made
plans for Christmas decorations.
All Homerooms were asked to
decorate their doors. First, se

will be given ribbons.

sa Parks; assistant secretary,
Belinda Weems; reporter, Thel

The Debating Society met to
select topics for debate and con
sider possible debating oppon
ents. The topics were: consoli
dation of schools, and opinions
on the National Drivers Test.
A large group of parents at
tended The “Back to School”
program of the P.T.A. Tuesday
night. They seemed to enjoy
walking in the paths of their sons
and daughters. Mr. G. W. Pope,
assistant principal, gave them
some timely remarks regard
ing the importance of attendan
ce. Each parent followed his
child’s schedule through six ei
ght-minute periods.
The band participated in a mu
sical assembly Friday at Susie
B. Atkinson Elementary School.
AUTO HITS SOLDIERS
EUTIN. Germany (UPI)—An
automobile went out of control
and plowed into a column of
West German soldiers Monday,
killing three and injuring 15
others. Police questioned the 43-
year-old, one-eyed motorist but
said tests showed he was not
under the influence of alchohol.

“Busy” has been the theme of
our school the last couple weeks,
both before and after the Thanks
giving holidays. To set us off to
a good start on our holidays, the
Student Council presented an
assembly program In the audi
torium.
It consisted of an open discus
sion of the many aspects of sc
hool such as scholarship, loyal
ty, moral values, attitudes and
respect, and responsibility. The

This week the Beta Clubs were
in the spotlight. The Senior Be
ta Club met in Mrs. Hammond’s
room with Dee Harden presid
ent presiding. The group dis
cussed a service project which
will be a tutoring program for
students having difficulty with
any subject. Members of the Se
nior Beta Club will assist these
students during their study hall
and will work with the teachers
in determining what the stud
ents’ problems may be. The club
members will also publish a sp
ecial Christmas issue of a liter
ary paper.
The Junior Beta Club met in
Mrs. Copeland’s room. Their
service project for this month
will be a Christmas surprise for
the Nursing Home. They also
planned a social during Decem
ber.
The F.T.A. (Future Teachers
of America) is trying to spread
the Christmas spirit to our boys
fighting in Vietnam. They have
collected Christmas cards from
students throughout the school
who wish to express their per
sonal appreciation to our sold
iers.

WASHINGTON (UPD— Week
end shoppers will find ample
supplies of meat and poultry
and good supplies of some fresh
fruits and vegetables at food
stores and supermarkets.
Still leading the lists of
excellent protein bargains are
broiler-fryer chickens and turk
eys. Other meat buys available
in quantity in all areas are
ground beef, steaks, and roasts,
pork roasts and spareribs, and
ham and bacon. Fish sticks and
portions join frozen fish fillets
and steaks as being abundantly
available in all areas.
Cabbage and potatoes are still
the vegetables in most general
supply in all areas. Lettuce,
onions, and radishes are in this
category in some areas. Apples,
grapefruit, and oranges again
are leaders among the abund
antly available fruits.
23 BODIES RECOVERED
BONBAY (UPD—Police said
Monday they had recovered 23
bodies in the sinking of a
pleasure boat on Lake Mahrun,
300 miles northeast of Bombay.
The boat, carrying more than 30
boys and girls aged 10 to 15 and
several teachers, capsized Mon
day. Three girls, three teachers
and the crew of the boat were
rescued.

JOHANNESBURG (UPI) —
Barry Goldwater and his wife,
Peggy arrived Tuesday for what
Goldwater called '“a short
vacation.” The former U.S.
senator and 1964 Republican
presidential nominee said he
would be in South Africa
through Saturday.
