Mr. Lynch
Buried Today
Mr. Artis Milton Lynch died at
his residence, 235 Mclntyre st
reet, Thomasville, Ga., Thurs
day morning.
He was born in Pike County,
making his home there until five
years ago when he moved to
Thomasville. Mr. Lynch was a
member of the Friendship Bap
tist Church in Pike County. He
was associated with Greenwood
Nurseries before his retirement.
Survivors include his widow,
Mrs. Irene Hamilton Lynch; two
step - daughters, Mrs. Evelyn
Tlnert of Minneapolis, Minn.,
and Mrs. Annette Martin of Al
bany; three step-sons, Henry
Lassiter of Tampa, Fla., Her
man Lassiter and Howard Lass
iter, both of Ojai, Calif.; one sis
ter, Mrs. Annie Willoughby of
Thomasville; and one niece, Mrs.
Joanne Dixon of Thomasville.
Funeral services were conduc
ted this afternoon at 3 o’clock
from the New Hope Baptist
Church with the Rev. Eugene
Maddox and the Rev. Clifford
Buffington officiating. Burial
was in the New Hope church ce
metery. McDonald Chapel was
in charge of plans.
Tour Os Homes
At Barnesville
The Barnesville Woman's Club
and the Willie Hunt Chapter of
the U.D.C. are sponsoring a
tour of homes on Monday,
Dec. 18. The hours will be 4:00
p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
to 9:30 p.m.

ests will be those of Dr. and
Mrs. S. B. Traylor, 275 Rose
avenue; Mr. and Mrs. James

The term, “Davy Jones’ lock
er,” is used to mean the grave
of those who die at sea. Davy
Jones is a term for the spirit of
the sea, usually an evil spirit.

300 Attend Annual
Recognition Dinner
Approximately 300 people were
present at the Flint River Coun
cil annual recognition dinner held
at the Georgia Experiment Sta
tion on Thursday night.
The featured speaker of the
evening was Dr. George Heaton
of Charlotte, N.C. His talk was
most inspiring and encouraging
to the volunteers. He told them
of the opportunity they have in
helping youth select and achieve
a proper goal in life.
Floyd Newton, president of
the Council, welcomed the gu
ests. The Rev. Alastair C. Walk
er gave the invocation. Explor
er Post One, under the direction
of Henry Smith, gave the open
ing and closing ceremonies.
Sam Cecil is the post advisor.
The Silver Beaver award, the
highest award a local Council
can make, was presented to V.
Ray Howard of Griffin and Billy
M. Phillips of Thomaston. Cam
Mitchell made the presentation.
The council district trophy was
won by the Spalding district and
the Boys’ Life award for growth
was won by the Coweta district.
The Boys’ Life award for hav
ing the most boys subscribing
as earned by the Spalding dis
trict.
Fifty-two training awards were
presented by J. K. Kinead. They

ern Baptist Foreign Mission Bo
urd. will be guest speaker at De-

a.m. worship service Sunday and
at the First Baptist Church at
5:15 p.m.
As a part of the Foreign Mis
sion week of prayer in the chur
ches Dr. Goerner will give a re
port on his work in Africa.
Dr. Goerner keeps the Mission
Board informed of progress,
needs, and emergencies in the
mission program, as well as the
personal crises of missionaries,
and he interprets the board’s ob
jectives, policies, and limitations
to the missionaries.
Missionary work in Africa is
under supreme pressure with co
lonialism on the rise. Dr. Goer
ner will relate the political
and spiritual views of nationals
as to their feelings toward out
siders.

Dies Thursday
Mr. Garland Hale, 61, of 525
Orange street, died suddenly
Thursday night at his home.
Mr. Hale was a native of Ran
dolph County, Ala., and had
made his home in Atlanta for se
veral years before coming to
Griffin four years ago.
He is survived by his wife,
Mrs. Garland Hale of Griffin;
a step-daughter, Mrs. Terry To
len of Griffin; a step-son, Billy
Owen of Marietta; three sisters,
Mrs. Ellie Barnhill of College
Park, Mrs. Byron McClendon of
Hogansville and Mrs. Hattie
Popham of Atlanta; five broth
ers, Glover Hale of Hogansville,
Byron Hale of Sylacaluga, Ala.,
Arthur Hale of Brunswick, Char
lie Hale of Gavalston, Tex. and
Robert Hale of Atlanta.
Funeral services will be held
Saturday afternoon at 4 o’clock
from the chapel of the Claude
A. McKibben Funeral Home In
Hogansville. The Rev. Monroe
Driver will officiate. Burial will
be in Hillview Annex in LaGr
ange.
Mrs. Sharp’s
Father Dies
Mr. E. R. Goodson of Decatur,
father of Mrs. Vance Sharp of
Griffin, died this morning at his
home after - an illness of several
months.
He made his home on Casson
street.
Funeral plans were incomple
te today.

To Aid Veterans
ROME, Ga. (UPD—The Geor
gia Department of Veterans
Services has started a coun
seling program aimed at help
ing veterans find out what ser
vices are available to them
through state and federal agen
cies.
The department Thursday of
fered information and counsel
ing to about 1,500 persons here
and informed veterans of bene
fits they could collect. It was
the third session in a continu
ing program for major Georgia
cities.
