Landslides can be predicted by
listening to sounds generated
below the surface of the earth,

The listening device is an ar

small crystal sound pickups
placed at various points in the
ground.
Ricnard E. Goodman, assist
ant professor in the department
of geological engineering, and
graduate student John D. Cad

TREE CULT CUSTOM
Tree cults exist as religious
systems in some parts of the
world. In India, in some
cases before a bachelor mar
ries a widow he must symboli
cally marry a tree, which is
then cut down to give him the
equal status of widower, ac
cording to the Encyclopaedia
Britannica.
