Washington Eliminates
Griffin Eagles, 57-54
Washington High School eli
minated Griffin from the Re
gion 3-AAA Tournament Wed
nesday night.
The Eagles bowed to the At
lantas 57-54 after leading most
of the way.
Griffin was ahead at the end
of every quarter and once en
joyed a 10 point lead.
However, Washington peck
ed away until it caught up in
the fourth.
The Eagles had a good chance
of coming back in the fourth
but a disastrous three-point play
made Washington’s lead to much
much to overcome.
That three-point play was
Washington’s winning margin.
Robert Anderson gunned in 22
points for the Eagles.
Harry Murphy scored 13, Cal
vin Daniels nine, Reggie Griffin
eight and Douglas Pack two.
Cotton Michaels scored 19 for
made 10, Ronald Cleveland ei
ght and Carl Anthony seven. Se
veral players had two or three
points.
Griffin’s finest quarter was the
first when the Eagles built a 19-
14 lead. That lead reached as
many as 10 points in the second.
Griffin had a one point lead
going into the fourth, 43-42.
Washington took over the lead
early in the fourth and never
gave it up.
The Griffin girls returned to
Sylvan Gym this afternoon for a
tournament bout with Coach Jim
Cavan’s R. E. Lee girls.
The Griffin team moved into
the second round Tuesday by
ousting Therrell in a onesided
match.

Kell Heaton bowled a 199 game
end a 549 series Wednesday in
the Mixed League. Fred Crosby
had a 201 game and a 542 ser
ies.
Helen Kolousek had the high
est game among women with a
188. She bowled a 534 series.

Paul Sikes 504, Ruby Trammell

ABC beat the Sleepers 3-1, Pen
ny Antes beat Big Apple 3-1,
Harper Insurance beat Hippies
3-1, and Ed’s Carburator and

Signs Contract
ATLANTA (UPl)—The Atlan
ta Braves today announced the
signing of second baseman Fe
lix Millan, who led their Rich
mond farm team to the Inter
national League pennant last
year, and rookie lefthander
George Stone.
The signings brought to 21 the
number of Braves under con
tract for 1968. Seventeen re
main unsigned.
Millan, who hit .310 with Rich
mond last year and made brief
appearances with the Braves at
the end of the last two seasons,
will be trying to beat out regu
lar second baseman Woody
Woodward for a starting assign
ment.
Stone, a 21 - year -old who
was 8 • 4 last season at Aus
tin of the Texas League, will
be trying to join a pitching
staff badly in need of a start
ing southpaw.

Spring Practice
Starts Monday
The Griffin High Eagles will
haul out football togs this week
in preparation of four weeks of
spring practice starting Monday
—weather permitting.
Coach Max Dowis announced
today that 45 to 50 boys will work
out with the varsity unit. “B”
team practice will start a week
later and run for three weeks.
Most varsity prospect partici
pated in weight and riming pro
grams in off season and Coach
Dowis says they are anxious to
put on uniforms and start prac
tice.
Several personal battles are
expected as the boys try to land
positions on the starting team.
Coach Dowis announced that
every position is wide open and
