Let Doctor Decide
On Change In Drugs
By WAYNE G. BRANDSTADT

Would it be dangerous to dis
continue these pills and take
something milder?
A—The dosage of whatever
drug you take for your hyper
tension should be adjusted to
keep your blood pressure as
nearly normal as possible.
You doctor is the one to decide
whether to modify the present
dosage or switch to another
drug.

Q—Can the Cooper erzoprobe
be used to treat uterine fi
broids?
A—This instrument, which
can destroy body tissues by
bringing them down to sub
freezing temperature, is being
ueed to treat a wide variety of
diseases. New uses are being
reported every year. Although
it has been used to treat both
benign and malignant tumors,
I know of no cases of uterine
fibroids being treated in this
way—possibly because, unless
these tumors cause symptoms,
it is better to let them alone.
Q—Can a person be immu
nized against bee stings?
A—Yes. Desensitizing injec
tions should be given in the
spring to all persons known to
be highly allergic to bee stings
or who have a high risk of ex
pisure. Immunization to wasp

Q—What can I do to relieve
my catarrh?
A—The term, catarrh, now
rarely used, refers to an in
the production of phlegm. It Is
applied most often to the post

sure that your trouble is not
due to an allergy a this would
call for avoiding the specific
allergen you are sensitive to
and the use of antihistamines.
For blocked sinuses, you may
need irrigations of your sinuses
or a nasal decongestant.

Gov. Wallace
Has Malignant
Tumor Removed
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (UP©
—Lurleen B. Wallace, the
nation’s only woman governor,
underwent her third operation
for cancer Thursday, and
doctors said they were "quite
pleased” with the results.
Mrs. Wallace, 41-year-old
mother of four children, was
rushed to St. Margaret’s
(Catholic) Hospital before dawn
Thursday and seven hours later
a “malignant,” pecan-sized
tunnor was removed from her
pelvis. The operation, prompted
by intestinal obstruction, was
the governor’s third in two
years.
Before and after the three
hour operation, an office was
set up on the governor’s fourth
floor suite to conduct state
business and a secretary
downstairs was handling the
many telephone inquiries.
Cecil Jackson, the governor’s
executive secretary, said there
were "no immediate plans" for
Lt. Gov. Albert Brewer to
assume her duties.
A four-member surgical team,
led by Dr. Felix Rutledge, chief
gynecologist of M.D. Anderson
Hospital and Tumor Institute in
Houston, Tex., issued a state
ment following Mrs. Wallace’s
surgery and said that, as
suspected, the tumor was
malignant.

Maddox Says
Calls Posed
No Threat
ATLANTA (UPD—Gov. Lest
er Maddox said Thursday night
that anonymous telephone calls
made to Chattanooga, Tenn., ra
dio and television stations prior
to his arrival in nearby Ross
ville posed no threats to his life.
“I think it was an imagina
tive thing that blew up into a
death threat along the way,”
Maddox said of the threats, the
second in as many days.
The U. 8. Secret Service re
vealed in Atlanta that an At
lanta man had been arrested
the day before Maddox’s trip
to north Georgia Thursday, af
ter the man had threatened to
kill Maddox and Vice President
Hubert Humphrey.
Maddox hinted after an inves
tigation of the calls in the Ten
nessee city that the reports had
been built up to a death threat.
The governor said a Chatta
nooga announcer said the
strongest threat he heard was,
“If he can’t be kept out, there
are other ways to stop him.”
