WASHINGTON (UPD—
Dealt a stunning setback by the
rules committee, House Demo
cratic leaders today faced a key
decision on whether to abandon
their attempt to push through
the Senate’s open housing bill
unchanged.
"We are considering several
course s,” said Democratic
Leader Carl Albert, Okla.,
Tuesday in the wake of the
rules committee vote delaying
any action on the measure until
April 9, two days before the
start of Congress’ 10-day Easter
recess.
The rules action killed the
plan of the leadership to have
the bill returned to the House
floor next week for a quick "up
or down" vote, and it hurt the
chances of House passage of the
measure in the form in which it
came from the Senate.
While the committee action
shocked Democratic leaders

2 Georgians
Killed In Viet

of Mr. and Mrs. Emmett C.
