DEAR POLLY — Have you
ever taken seldom-worn cloth
ing from the closet and discov
ered a dust line across the shoul
ders? Rather than individual co
vers for each hanger, I bought
a piece of wide, inexpensive ma
terial the length of my closet,
laid it across the top of the rod
and fastened it at both ends. No
more dusty shoulders for me.—

DEAR POLLY — I hope
someone can tell me how to cl

successfully and, if so, how? —

POLLY’S POINTERS
Full-Length Cover
MRS. G.a.
DEAR POLLY — I am sure
some girls who sew a lot will
find my Pointer helpful with
those accumulated colors and
sizes of spools of thread. I save
the foam trays from meat, wash
them and dry. I push nails
through the bottom to the top (I
used the white screwlike type for
asbestos siding). After push
ing the nails through, I put the
spools of thread down over the
protruding nails. This makes a
neat spool tray. Nalls can be put
as close together as the size of
the spools allows. I find this
more convenient than a spool
bdx. I use the spools of one size
on one tray, and so on. Trays
stay neatly stacked on a shelf.
Cardboard can be cut out to fit
in the bottom and a sturdier nail
used (or a little glue under the
nail) If you have larger, heavier
spools. — FLORENCE
DEAR POLLY — I have a no
vel way of keeping my string
of beads. I took an old picture
frame with a cardboard pic
ture that I sprayed over with
black. The frame itself was pro
tected with another piece of card
board as I sprayed. 1 added a
few spurts of bronze for Inter
est. Twelve pairs of brass-head
ed tacks were placed at inter
vals on the board, back in the
frame, and an end of a string of
beads fastened over one of each
pair of nails. They were laid out
on the board for a balanced ef
fect before the nails were put
in. — THELMA

For memorable holiday evenings, elegant velvet cap
tures the fashion spotlight. Harvey Berin's distinctive
gown in glowing plum boulevard velvet (left) has
jewel-embroidered silk bodice. Modern Couture
styles boulevard velvet (right) is a gown worthy of a
portrait with its heart-shaped, off-shoulder neckline
and slightly puffed sleeves.
