Judge Says Walker
Went Back On Word
CHICAGO (UPI) — A federal
judge says Daniel Walker, who
released a report contending
Chicago police "rioted” during
the Democratic National Con
vention, “went back on his
word” in making the findings
public.
William J. Campbell, chief
judge of the U.S. District Court
here, said Monday the Walker
report may have violated the
secrecy of the federal grand
jury investigating the conven
tion week violence.
Campbell earlier said Walker
may be investigated for the
timing and motivation” of the
report’s release. The judge
maintained it was the work “of
one Individual” and not of the
national commission on vio

prepared. He said Monday the
grand jury’s report will be “the
one, correct, definitive, objec

Campbell said his agreement
with Walker was made verbally
Oct. 3 “so that it (the report)
would not interfere with the

"The next I heard from Mr.
Walker was on Nov. 3 when he
called and said the report had
been finished and printed and
was in the hands of the press.
He said he was sending a copy
to be for my perusal. I told him
it was a little late and that I
might as well read it in the
newspapers like everybody else.
“I then reminded him of our
agreement of Oct. 3 concerning
the grand jury. He denied any
such agreement.”
Campbell also said he was
disturbed by reports that Atty.
Gen. Ramsay Clark suggested
deletions in the report because
the deleted material would
interfere with the grand jury’s
work. He said that when he told
