Judge McGehee’s
Retirement
Judge John MeGehee’s retirement leaves us with varied
feelings.
Among them are:
• Regret that the Griffin Circuit of Superior Court will
no longer have his full-time service;
• Gratitude for the truly outstanding job he has done
in the cause of justice, law and order, and common decency
— and gratitude for the example he has set for others in
the conduct of his personal as well as of his professional
life;
• Appreciation of him as a jurist, as a lawyer, and as
an exceptional person;
• Happiness for him as for any good person who has
undertaken, worked for and achieved success in a worthy
cause;
• And for the men who now will conduct the court,
we have confidence in Judge Andrew Whalen who moved
up to judge, and confidence in Claude Christopher who
succeeded him as district attorney. Both are distinguished,
experienced and capable lawyers and public servants. In
our judgment no better selection could have been made
than of them.
On behalf of the law-abiding citizens of the circuit, the
Griffin Daily News wishes Judge McGehee everything
good as he leaves the bench, and extends an enthusiastic
welcome to Judge Whalen as he ascends it, and to Mr.
Christopher as he becomes d. a.

Teen Trouble
Will you please give us advice
as to how to keep our three teen
age boys from drifting Into trou
ble. J.L.
Let me suggest certain steps,
in their order, with the under
standing that In all of this pro
blem you need God’s help and
guidance. First of all, you are
in no position to train your chil
dren right unless you yourselves
have given your hearts and liv
es to Christ. When you have
done this, you are in a position
to ask His help each day and
to pray for your sons. Then, as
Christians, be sure that Christ
is given His rightful place In
your home. This Includes con
sistent Christian lives on your
part and daily study of the Bi
ble and prayer. Have a short
time of Bible reading and pray
er together the first thing In the
morning, before you separate for
the day. Then, make your home
the kind of place your sons will
enjoy bringing their friends to.
Remember that young people
are noisy, and that they often
leave things scattered around,
but, make your home a happy
place with refreshments and
games for the young people to
enjoy. Make the church a vital
part of your life and go as a fa
mily to Sunday School and the
various worship services of the
week. Finally, remember that
you can reach out to your
children through earnest prayer
for God to keep them from evil.
This is both your privilege and
your duty. If you fulfill your ob
ligations as Christian parents,
you will find that God Himself
will bless all concerned.

Blessed art thou, O Lord: te
ach me thy statutes. (Psalm
119:12)
PRAYER: “Blessed Lord, who
hast caused all holy Scriptures
to be written for our learning;
grant that we may in such wise
hear them, read, mark, learn,
and inwardly digest them, that
by patience, and comfort of the
holy Word, we may embrace
and even hold fast the blessed
hope of everlasting life, which
Thou hast given us in our Sav
iour Jesus Christ. Amen.”

A thought for the day—Poet
John Dryden said, "Men are but
children of a larger growth.”
WORLD ALMANAC
FACTS
Capt. Cook visited Tahiti
in 1769 and Capt. Bligh, in
the Bounty, in 1788, but ex
ploration and trade were
not the only lures of this
South Sea island. The World
Almanac notes. The myster
ies of its exotic flora and
fauna brought Darwin to
the island, while the search
for the “noble savage” and
his simple and natural life
enticed Melville, Gauguin
and Stevenson.
