A MARTYR NAMED JAN is turning into a nightmare that won’t go away for the
Soviet occupiers of Czechoslovakia. The death of Jan Palach, the student who burned
himself to death, is the focus of continuing protest in Czechoslovakia and abroad.
Top, a sign reading “Jan Palach Square” proclaims the unofficial renaming of a cor
ner near Prague University. Lower left, demonstrating Italian students in Rome spit
on a Soviet flag. Lower right, marchers take to the streets in London.

Proposed Credit
Code Attacked
ATLANTA (UPD—Two legis
lators Thursday attacked a
newly - proposed uniform con
sumer credit code by charging
it fails to encourage competi
tion and competitive Interest
rates in the loan business.
Reps. Milton Jones of Colum
bus and J. C. Daugherty of At
lanta, both members of a spe
cial study committee, filed a
minority report saying the pro
posal “missed the boat.”
Jones said the code might be
entirely unacceptable to the
board of governors of the Fed
eral Reserve System. The code
has been introduced into both
chambers of the legislature.
Unless the federal agency ac
cepts a lending code for Geor
gia by next July, Georgia would
come under the scrutiny of the
federal government through
provisions of the truth-in-lend
ing bill.

IN MEMORIAM
In memory of our Beloved
Mother, Grandmother, Sister,
and Aunt
Your gentle face and patient
smile
With sadness we recall
You had a kindly word for
each
And died beloved by all.
The voice is mute and stilled
the heart,
That loved us well and
true.
Ah, bitter was the trial to
part
From one so good as you.
You are not forgotten,
our dear loved one
Nor will you ever, ever be,
As long as life and memories
last
We will always remember
thee.
We miss you now, our hearts
are sore,
As time goes by we miss
you even more,
Your loving smile, your
gentle face,
No one can ever fill your
vacant place.
