walked only one.
Henderson scored an unearn
ed run in the third.
Gregory McCrary hit a home
run for Fairmont. Winfred Hor
ton had two doubles, Carlton
Blackmon tripled, Randy Brown
lee and Ray Calloway hit two
singles and Michael Lamar hit
one.
The victory was Fairmont’s
third in four starts.
Coach Goodrum will send his
team against Fairburn on April
17.

UNDERGOES SURGERY

man Harry Howell, a 17-year
veteran with the New York
Rangers, will undergo spinal
fusion surgery on April 29 and
probably won’t be available tc
the National Hockey League
team before December.
The Rangers also announced
that Rod Seiling, another
defenseman, will be operated on
next Monday to repair damaged
cartilage in his right knee.

Griffin High, Towers
In Dual Track Meet
The Griffin High track team
will participate in its first meet
of the season Friday at Avon
dale Stadium. It will be a dual
meet between Griffin and Tow
ers.
Johnny Baker, one of the top
hurdlers in the state, will com
pete in those events plus the
triple jump and broad jump. Ba
ker was the Eagles’ top pOint
maker a year ago.
Harry Murphy will run the 440
and participate in the broad
jump.
Douglas Pack will run the
mile and two mile for Griffin.
Stan Donehoo will compete in
the dash event, Keith O’Dell will
run the 880 and John Goddard
will run the mile.
Terry Killingsworth, Keith
Phillips and James Black will
compete in the field events.
Several ninth graders are on
the Griffin team. They will com
pete in regular meets but are not
eligible for region competition.
