Spalding Junior High
Students Begin
Pre-Registration

Pre-registration sheets for the
1969-1970 school year were given
to seventh and eighth grade
students at Spalding on Wednes
day. The forms are due back on
April 14.
Students received their report
cards last Wednesday. Those
who made all A’s were named
to the High Honor Roll and those
who made all A’s and B's are
on the Honor Roll.

fin, led the Furman debate team
to victory at the Calhoun Foren
sic Festival, winning the first
place trophy after scoring five
first places and one second place
votes from the judges. His per
formance resulted in a tie f o r
outstanding competitor honors
in the tournament. Mostiler is a
senior at Furman University,
Greenville, S.C.

James Michael Shivers of Wil
liamson, a senior mathematics
major at Georgia Southern Col

the winter quarter dean's list.
He is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Edward M. Shivers. He has al

The Fairmont High Band jour
neyed to Barnesville Friday to
the District Festival. The band
played two overtunes “Il Re Pas
tore’’ and “Emperata Over
tune”. The Band received a rat
ing of “Superior” which enab
les the band to attend the State
Festival to be held Saturday, Ap
ril 19, in Savannah, Ga. The'
band is under the direction of
Mr. Rufus Tucker.
Freddie Lovett won first place
at the 4-H contest. He entered
public speaking and delivered a
speech on the “U. S. Constitu
tion”. He will participate in the
district elimination which will
be held at Rock Eagle.

HIGHER DEBT
WASHINGTON (UPI) —The
national debt limit is sl2 billion
higher today because of a
stroke of the pen in President
Nixon’s hands. Nixon Monday
signed the measure into law
saying it was needed so the
government can pay Its bills on
time while waiting for tax
revenue and other government
collections. The new celling is
$377 billion.
