CAPE KENNEDY (UPD—
Astronaut Eugene A. Cernan,
who is to pilot a spacecraft
closer to the moon than man
has ever gone:
‘‘We expect a fantastic view.
We’ve seen photographs from 60

really what moving across that
surface at eight to ten miles
might be.”
NEWARK, N.J.—Mrs. Della
James, 68, refusing medical
attention for her dog, Dolly,
who fought off three attackers
despite a bullet wound in the
nose:
‘‘My baby took care of me

her.”
CHICAGO — Adlai Stevenson

candidate for aiderman whom
he backed against Mayor

machine:
“Bill Singer’s victory is ... a

in Chicago and a Democratic
party which is more democra

Speculation
On Airport
It's a good bet that the second airport
for Atlanta will be built north of the metro
politan area and not south as some land
speculators in this section had hoped.
Only one site south of Atlanta is under
study. It is a few miles from Mc-
Donough. Although this site has not been
ruled out, chances are slim that it will be
picked.
Talk around Griffin was that land be
tween here and Atlanta was going at pre*
mium rates-if it could be bought at all—
because of the airport speculation.
There should be no despair because this
area apparently is not in the running for
the 20,000-acre layout.
Growth and development are moving
in all directions in this area and there is
no slowdown in sight.
This section continues to stay on the go,
new airport or not.
Werner Widmann
Werner Widmann was one of Griffin’s finest citizens.
An outstanding civic leader as well as a prominent and
respected businessman, Mr. Widmann was active in many
fields of endeavor. He was a hard worker in behalf of the
community and particularly through the Boy Scouts of
America, in behalf of its young people.
Having retired from business, he and his wife had plan
ned to move soon to Gainesville where her sister has a
store. Nevertheless, he was a “Griffinite”—one of the
very best.
It was a good day for Griffin when he moved here. It
was a sad one indeed when he died.
Pettiness Price
Is Always High
It has never been easy to maintain an optimistic outlook
on the future of the world. Two recent examples of human
pettiness at work, from unlikely sources, have made it
even more difficult.
A lot of scientists are teed-off, it’s said, because they are
not going to get any of the 80 or so pounds of moon dust
the Apollo 11 astronauts will bring back this summer.
What will be one of the most inspiring scientific achieve
ments in history is already marred by squabbling over who
gets a chunk of the Apollo’s unique and precious cargo to
experiment with. Some of those who have been selected
actually find themselves ostracized by their resentful and
envious colleagues.
The Sierra Club, perhaps the largest and best-known
conservation organization in the country, is currently split
between two factions that are struggling for control.
One group wants continued expansion and more of the
grandiose publishing ventures which have brought the club
its present frame, but which have also begun to strain its
financial resources. The other group wants to practice a
little fiscal conservation and devote more energy to spe
cific conservation issues.
In the meantime, the purpose of the club—the preser
vation of natural beauty and resources—is seriously jeo
pardized by the infighting.
When men who share a common goal can’t get along
and when scientists display the jeopardy one expects of
children playing in a sandbox, is it any wonder that the
daily summary out of the Paris peace talks is drearily the
same: “No progress”?

MY A
ANSWER Oh
No Contradiction
—ies says we are saved by
faith and works; Paul tells us
we are saved by faith alone.
Which Apostle is right? W.F.
The Apostle Paul and the Apos
tle James do not contradict each
other. Paul says that a man is
Justified before God by faith a
lone; ames says that true faith
will show Itself in Christian ac
tion. The great doctrine of Justi
fication by faith is central in the
New Testament. In the fourth
chapter of Paul's letter to t h e
Romans we find sentences like
these: ‘‘But to him that worketh
not, but believeth in him th at
Justifieth the ungoldly, his faith
is counted for righteousness”. ..
“Even as David. . . unto whom
God imputed righteousness with
out works. . . "for we say that
faith was reckoned to Abraham
for righteousness”. . . all throu
gh that particular chapter we
read that God Imputes right
eousness by faith. The word
"Justified” has rightly been par
aphrased: "Just-as-if-I’d-never
sinned.” In the epistle of Jam
es, we find him pleading for fai
th to show itself in good
works. He says, "For as the
body without the spirit is dead,
so faith without works is dead
also.” James makes the clear
distinction between an Intellec
tual faith and a faith which co
mes from the heart: "Thou be
lievest that there Is one God;
thou doest well: the devils also
believe, and tremble." Saving
faith Is a complete trust in Jes
us for salvation. It is also a fai
th which shows forth in a trans
formed life, one which honors
God in what we do. It is God's
grace and love which saves us
through faith. In turn, our love
for Him makes us live as we
should.
Thought For Today
A thought for the day:
German philosopher Arthur
Schopenhauer said, "Intellect is
invisible to the man who has
none.”
