The Secret Service Is building a
Hollywood-type set to help train
its agents. The scene looks not

FT. LEAVENWORTH, Kan.
— Is it Lt. Col. and Maj. Johnny
Taylor? Or is It Lt. Col. Johnny
Taylor and Maj. Wilma Taylor?
Maybe it’s just Colonel and Ma
jor Taylor.
Although husband and wife te

ticularly uncommon, Ft. Lea

husband and wife team the
Army thinks Is unusual.
They both hold key positions
at Ft. Leavenworth. He Is the

He is a lieutenant colonel in

The set, which will be used
for motorcade training, fea

curving roadway and an
overpass—an eerie re-creation
of Dealey Plaza, where Kenne

The set will be used to help

Department aide who reported
on the project to Congress

the Artillery — she is a major
in the Army Nurse Corps.
Col. Taylor was born in Miss
issippi and attended public sc
hool in Philadelphia, Pa. He en
tered West Virginia State Col
lege in September 1949 and gra
duated with a Bachelor of Sc
ience degree in Industrial Engi
neering in August 1953. He was
commissioned as a second lieu
tenant in Artillery through the
ROTC program on graduation.
He entered the Army on Sept.
1, 1953, and served his first tour
of duty at Ft. Meade, Md.
Major Taylor was born in Grif
fin, Ga. She attended school
there, graduated from Griffin’s
Vocational High School and then
attended Fort Valley State
College at Fort Valley, Ga.
She is the daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. William Blanton, Birdie
Community.
After her sophomore year
there, she decided to pursue a
career in nursing rather than
return to Fort Valley and enroll
ed at the University Hospital Sc
hool of Nursing In Augusta, Ga.
After graduating from the sc
hool and working as a staff nur
se at the Veterans Administra
tion Hospital in the same city
for approximately a year, she
was commissioned as a second
lieutenant In the Army Nurse
Corps. She reported for an eight
week basic training course at
Ft. Sam Houston, Tex., in Sep
tember 1955.
After completing the course,
she went to Walter Reed Gen
eral Hospital in Washington, D.
C., for duty as an Army nurse.
The tour there lasted for five
and a half years. Major Taylor
is thought to have been the first
person in the Army Nurse Corps
to go through the ranks from
second lieutenant to captain at
the same post.
She returned to Ft. Sam Hous
ton, Tex., in 1961 for the Advan
ced Military Nursing Course.
Her next assignment was a
fateful one at the 121st Evacua
tion Hospital at Ascom City,
Korea.
It all started when Capt. John
ny Taylor was Introduced to
Capt. Wilma Blanton at a hail
and-farewell party at the Ascom
City Officers Club in Korea. This
meeting took place in 1962 while
Capt. Blanton was assigned to
the 121st Evacuation Hospital
and Capt. Taylor was assigned
to the 71st Missile Battalion.
Capt. Taylor returned to t h e
United States in September,
1962, and was stationed at Ft.
Bliss, Tex., where he attended
the Artillery Advanced Course.
Captain Blanton returned in
February of the next year and
the couple was married on Feb.
13, 1963. They were then Captain
and Captain Taylor.
