20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin
J. Staley of Route four, Griffin,
is on duty in Vietnam, arriving
there five months ago. Pvt. Bur
gress received his basic train
ing at Fort Gordon and was sta
tioned at Fort Leonard Wood,
Mo. before being assigned to
Vietnam.
DONALD T. KOWN
Technical Sergeant Donald T.
Kown has been presented the
U.S. Air Force airman’s medal
at Stewart AFB, Tenn., for vol
untary .risk of life. The sergeant
earned the award while serving
with the 834th Air Division at
Tuy Hoa AB, Vietnam. Observ
ing flames coming from the car

Hercules, he rushed to the air
craft with an extinguisher and
fought the blaze until fire fight
ing equipment arrived. His ef
forts confined the fire to the
rear portion of the cargo area
and saved the transport and
two nearby aircraft from pro
bable destruction. The sergeant’s
wife, Patricia, is the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. William B. Wri
