Porter Mason
J. Porter Mason was a fine man and an
outstanding citizen of Griffin. He was a
leading member of his church, the First
Baptist; a leader of his civic club, Rotary;
a business leader and executive, H. V. Kell
Company. He was a friendly and popular
man whom the community both respected
and regarded highly and with affection.
Porter Mason was buried yesterday after
a long and full life, and Griffin is a better
place because he lived here. A member of
his family expressed it best "We will miss
him," his daughter said. That goes for the
community as well as for his family.
Dropping In
An 81-year-old being graduated from the eighth
grade of Detroit Eastern High School’s Adult Division,
plans to enter high school in the fall, and has not ruled
out a crack at college later on. There is no rule, then,
that a drop-out cannot drop in again sometime later,
and a lot of younger persons could profit from this
determined oldster’s example. (Little Rock (Ark.)

I would like very much to be *
ChrisUah, but I'm afraid I will
be disappointed. I really have
not met very many Christians I
really admire. But, I have the
feeling I should be different than
I am. Have you *dvice for
me? K.Y.
Christ is a specialist in giving
people a reason for living. Read
the stories in the New Testa
ment of the men he called. I be
lieve you will agtee that he took
ordinary people and made them
extraordinary.
I do not mean to imply that,
if you accept ChHSt, you will be
come famous or fifth. But the In
ner poise arid purpose he can
give is of more Value than fame
or fortune.
In regard'Wytifif being disap
pointed. I have met hundreds of
triumphant Christians, but I
have never met a person w ho
said that Christian discipleship
was disappointing. To say y ou
fear disappointment is always
like saying, "I’m afraid to brea
the because of the germs.”
Germs or not, you cannot 1 iv e ,
without breathing, and the Bible
says that there is no abundant
life without Christ. ,
Obviously, you have two dis
appointments; yourself and ot- (
hers. Life, for you, has had some
disilluslonments, and like Solo
mon you are saying, “All is van
ity." But, Solomon, ultimately
came to a conclusion, and he
passed it on to others. He said,
“Remember thy creator in the
days of thy youth.” Don’t w al t
until bitterness and cynicism er
odes your life. Let God salvage
your life, and save you from de
spair. Receive Christ as your
Lord and Savior.
THOUGHTS
“King Agrippa, do you be
lieve the prophets? I know
that you believe." And
Agrippa said to Paul, “In a
short time you think to
make me a Christian!
Acts 26:27, 28.
