Magazine Drive
Is Under Way
The annual magazine drive
for Spalding is under way and
will continue through Oct. 6.
Prizes will be given to the
students who sell the most
magazines.
The magazine drive is the
only fund-raising drive that
Spalding’s student body is
allowed to have. The money
made in this drive is used to
make improvements on
Spalding’s campus.
Youth, 18, Shot
Tn ‘Accident’
Charles Davis, 18, was in fair
condition at the Griffin-
Spalding hospital today being
treated for a gunshot wound in
the right side. Police said wit
nesses told them the shooting
was accidential.
It occurred at 1332 Boyd’s
Row Sunday night at 11:45.
Benny L. Jackson, 25, was
charged with discharging fire
arms in the city and shooting at
another.
Witnesses told police Jackson
was “playing around with the
gun” and drew it. Jackson told
authorities he thought the pistol
was unloaded.

Mr. Cash
Mr. Rader Watson Cash of 312
Irving Street was dead on arri
val at the Griffin-Spalding
County Hospital Saturday
morning after suffering an
apparent heart seizure while at
work.
Mr. Cash had made his home
in Griffin for the past 37 years
and was employed as a car
penter. He was born in Carroll
County.
His survivors include his wife,
Mrs. Leia Taylor Cash; two
daughters, Mrs. Austin Hard
wick and Mrs. James Mathews,
all of Griffin; a son, Oscar Cash
of New Orleans, La.; a sister,
Mrs. Clentice Jackson; three
brothers, Walter Cash, Homer
Cash and Albert Cash, all of
Carrollton; seven grand
children and several nieces and
nephews.
Funeral services were con
ducted this afternoon at 2
o’clock from McDonald Chapel.
The Rev. Joseph Cardell of
ficiated and burial was in Oak
Hill cemetery.
Mr. Bankston
Mrs. J. T. Bankston of 303
South Sixth Street died yester
day afternoon at the Griffin-
Spalding Hospital after a long
illness.
A resident of Griffin since
1938, he formerly owned and
operated the Red Rock Cola
plant here. He was a member of
the First United Methodist
Church and attended the Men’s
Bible Class.
Mrs. Bankston is survived by
his widow, Mrs. Myrtice M.
Bankston.
Funeral services were con
ducted this afternoon in
Haisten’s Chapel. Dr. Harry
Lee Smith officiated. Burial
was in Oak Hill cemetery.
Members of the Men’s Bible
Class served as honorary escort
at the funeral.

BARNESVILLE—Mr. Paul
Edward Stallings of Barnesville
died unexpectedly in New
Orleans, La., Saturday night.
He was a native of Pike County
and was the son of the late
Martin Luther Stallings and the
late Mrs. Mattie Lizzie
Stallings. He was a welder.
Survivors include two
daughters, Miss Paula Ann
Stallings, Miss Tam Stallings,
both of Macon; five sisters,
Mrs. Lois McCorkle, Mrs.
Frances Foster, Mrs. Dorothy
Marchman, Mrs. Juanita
Griffin of Barnesville; Mrs.
Ruby Murphy of Columbus, Ga;
three brothers, Luther Stallings
of Barnesville, Ivey Stallings of
Macon and Jack Stallings of Los
Angeles, Calif.
Funeral services will be held
tomorrow afternoon at 3 o’clock
in Haisten’s Chapel. The Rev.
Stephen Perry will officiate.
Burial will be in Greenwood
cemetery.

Miss Bloodworth
Miss Mary Jane Bloodworth,
94, died Saturday in Gulfport,
Miss., while on a visit there. She
was a lifelong resident of Pike
County.
She is survived by several
nieces and nephews, Miss Helen
Bloodworth and F. H. Blood
worth, both of St. Simon’s Is
land; R. H. Bloodworth of West
Palm Beach, Fla., T. H. Blood
worth of Milwaukee, Wis., and
J. H. Bloodworth of Silver
Springs, Md.
Funeral services will be held
Wednesday morning at 11
o’clock from the graveside in
the Fincher’s Methodist Church
cemetery.
The Rev. Joe Young will
officiate.
The body is at Haisten
Funeral Home.

Mrs. Jacquelyn Freeman
Findley, 40, of 1571 New Castle
road, Macon, daughter of Mrs.
W. M. Freeman, 804 West
Poplar street, Griffin, was
drowned in a boating accident
Saturday at Lake Blackshear.
Mrs. Findley’s husband, James
R. Findley, Jr., was drowned
also.
In addition to her mother,
Mrs. Findley is survived by two
daughters, Mrs. Robert L.
Wallace of Pensacola, Fla., and
Miss Julie Findley of Macon; a
son, James R. Findley 111 of
Macon; a brother, Sam Free
man of Atlanta; a sister, Mrs.
George Sheffield of Honolulu;
and an aunt, Mrs. R. A. Stewart
of Griffin.
Hart Mortuary of Macon is in
charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Cardell '
Mrs. Maggie Hatcher Cardell
of 814 Williams Street died
Sunday night at the Griffin-
Spalding County Hospital.
She had made her home in
Griffin for 32 years and was a
retired employe of Thomaston
Mills, Griffin division. Mrs.
Cardell was a native of Moultrie
Ga.
Mrs. Cardell is survived by a
daughter, Mrs. Louise Black
mon of Griffin; two sons, Elmer
Jones of Griffin and Eugene
Jones of Albany; her father,
Robert A. Hatcher of
LaGrange; four sisters, Mrs.
Truddie Goodman of Moultrie,
Mrs. Florence Hamlin of
Thomaston, Mrs. Mary Carnes
of LaGrange and Mrs. Vera
Rister of Newberry, S.C.; two
brothers, Jack Hatcher of
Moultrie and Ernest Hatcher of
Griffin; five grandchildren and
several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be con
ducted Tuesday afternoon at 2
o’clock from the Providence
Primitive Baptist Church, three
miles from Sylvester, Ga. The,
Rev. Robert McDermit will
officiate and burial will be in the
church cemetery. Mrs. Car
dell’s body will remain at
McDonald Chapel. Friends may
visit the family at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Blackmon,
223 West Chappell Street.
Woman Charged
Mrs. Nancy Callaway Dorton
of 206 West Tinsley street has
been freed under two bonds of
$750 each after being charged
with forgery in connection with
the passing of two alleged
worthless checks. They were
valued at S6O and SSO, sheriff’s
investigators said.
An investigation of the checks
was continuing today.
