DOES YOUR FAMILY send as many as 75 Christmas cards
every year? Pollsters say that’s average. They also say the
average family hangs 32 ornaments on the Christmas tree.
Doesn’t that figure sound low? ... “YOUR PULSE beats 80
times per minute if you are a woman, 72 times per minute if
you are a man.” That’s what this article at hand reports.
Interesting. Just took my own pulse to check this out. Am
thinking of changing my name to Louise.
THE WALKING FISH - Inquires an Oregonian: “You said
one of those walking catfish in Florida bit a dog on the nose.
Are they vicious, those fish?” Matter of fact, they are. The
most vicious of all fish, evidently. Even grown piranha are said
to shy away from them.
IF YOU WOULD LIKE to take a snapshot of your cat
sniffing a present under the Christmas tree, that’s easy. Put
tunafish oil on It. No, not on the cat, Dum Dum. On the
present, on the present. .. WHO’S GETTING RICH? The
appraisers appointed by some probate judges. Because 60 per
cent of the Nation’s citizens die without a
wi11... ACCORDING TO researchers at Ohio State, the
banana is one of the several foods that can be expected to
cause you to dream most extraordinarily.
HOW NOW? - Her cow gave birth to nine calves in 25
months. That’s what Mrs. Gordon Adams of Hagerman, Idaho,
reports. Quadruplets in July of 1967, twins in September of
1968 and triplets in September of 1969. All survived. A toast to
Mrs. Adams’ cow - clink! Remember this cow onMother’s
Day.
Q. “WHO STARTED the first motel?” A. Can’t say. Know
who first used the word “motel” on his inn, however. A
California architect named Hieneman. In 1925 at San Luis
Obispo.
Q. “DID YOU EVER try to quit smoking?” A. Did indeed.
Couple of years ago. By successively postponing each day’s
first cigarette for one more hour. Took about 16 days to quit.
Stayed quit, too. For awhile.
Q. “ARE THE PALM TREES at Palm Beach, Fla., native to
the place?” A. No, sir, they sprouted from coconuts that
floated ashore when a Spanish freighter carrying a cargo of
same capsized in an 1879 storm.
PATTERN FOR PROFIT - This is a memo to young men
who are interested in cash. Bear in mind, in the manufacture
of merchandise to produce great profit: It’s not in the tricky
razor, but in the blades; not in the dandy camera, but in the
film; not in the fancy dispenser, but in the paper cups; not in
the mechanical pencil, but in the lead, and not in the lovely
lighter, but in the butane.

Airport good news
is not final yet
Henry County site has been recommend
ed by aviation consultants R. Dixon Speas
and Associates as the best location for At
lanta's second major airport.
This is good. But it must be remembered
that the recommendation is only a step in
making the final decision.
Atlanta's mayor-elect has requested that
the final decision not be made until his ad
ministration takes office at the beginning
of the year and by its lack of firm action
other than hearing the recommendation,
Atlanta's board of aidermen apparently
has decided to do as Massell asked.
Still facing the Henry County site's ap
proval are the recommendations of Atlan
ta's major air carriers, the aldermanic avi
ation committee, and, finally, the entire
board.
Because many interested parties are yet
to be heard from, the two north Fulton
County sites remain very much in the run
ning as possible locations for the facility.
The recommendation of the Speas avia
tion consultants is a reflection of more
two years of studies to determine what
would best serve the greatest number of
people.
It is hoped that the Aldermanic Aviation
Committee will make its report in late Jan
uary or earlv February which would consti
tute the next step toward a final decision.
The first word has been good, but until
all votes are in we must continue to play
the game of wait and see.

"Mr. Palmer, this is the White House calling. The Presi

'comeback' stories?"
MY *
ANSWER 1 .
llligitimate
A question has been on my
mind of late. Can an illegitimate
child enter the Kingdom of
God? I have been concerned
about this because a person
very dear to me was born out of
wedlock. O.L.
Why not? It was the sin of the
parents, not the illegitimate
child — the child bears no res
ponsibility or guilt for being
illegitimate. The Bible says
“We have all sinned”, and I
read no place in the New Testa
ment Scriptures where God is
concerned about the legitimacy
<rf our birth regarding Salva
tion. The Scripture you refer to
alludes to the “chastening of
sons”, and not to the un
desirability of illegitimates.
The truth is: God is more in
terested in the second birth, or
new birth, than He is our first.
In His sight there is no such
thing as a “blue blood”, or
aristocrat. I’m quite sure He
has no interest, as far as our
personal salvation is concerned,
as to whether our ancestors
came over on the Mayflower.
He is, however, concerned that
we become His “legitimate
children” through the re
deeming power of the Savior. In
Fact, He leaves us no alterna
tive. Jesus said, “Except a man
be born again he cannot enter
the kingdom of God.” This is the
origin of real aristocracy and
class: the new birth.
You, obviously, have the mind
of Christ, for you say that one
born out of wedlock is very near
and dear to you. The Bible says:
“God commendeth his love to
ward us, in that while we were
yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
So, the door is open for even the
parjents of illegitimates, prosti
tutes, and adulterers. But, of
course to each He says:
“Neither do I condemn thee: go
thy way and sin no more.”
WORLD ALMANAC
FACTS
The World Almanac notes
that English novelist H. G.
Wells made a prediction, in
1914, that is pertinent to to
’ day’s troubled world situa-’
tion. In “The World Set
Free,” Wells wrote: “Noth
ing could have been more
obvious to the people of the
early 20th century than the
rapidity with which war
was becoming impossible
. . . they did not see it until
the atomic bombs burst in
their fumbling hands.”
