Q — Your “Cowies Com
plete Encyclopedia of U.S.
Coins” is very interesting
and informative, but you
failed to say where the Nu
miscope recommended on
page 287 could be purchased
and what it would cost. Is it
a specialized instrument re
stricted solely to the examin
ation of coins or can it be
used for regular specimen
work?—Earl Kemerer, Mo
bile, Ala.
A— The Frey Numiscope
No. 2864 was developed by
the Frey Scientific Co., 465
S. Diamond St., Mansfield,
Ohio. It is an inexpensive
piece of equipment primar
ily intended as a means of
examining both coins and
stamps or, for that matter,
any article capable of being
brought into focus without
further implementation.
In adapting the vernier
table to the scope, Frey did
not alter the base which al
lows the user to reinstall the
glass stage for slide study.
It is advisable to order the
glass and mounting brackets
when ordering a Numiscope.
I was consulted on the de
sign. For price, consult
Frey’s new catalogue or re
quest it by mail.

Q—l am writing in regards
to your article printed Feb.
7, 1970. in the Troy Record.
This article listed the Ken
nedy half-dollar as being
worth $42 in Kenya. Do you
know any means by which I
could sell my collection of
Kennedy halves at this price
to a coin dealer in Kenya?—
Michael F. Smith, North
Troy, N.Y.
A—Rest assured, if I knew
of such a dealer I would be
on my way to Kenya. While
it is true the Kennedy coin
has considerably more pre
mium abroad than at home,
I doubt that $42 is the going
rate in that country. I am
convinced that the case in
point was exceptional rather
than the rule.
Right now, a mass ship
ment of coins into Kenya
would more than likely find
some resistance at the bor
der and if by chance it did
reach a dealer, his buying
price undoubtedly would be
much less than the retail
price.

Q—l am interested in four
Herzl gold (20-pound) coins
of 1960. Can you tell me
where to send an order and
how much these pieces cost?
—H en r i Knopf, Tacoma,
Wash.
A—Several dealers in the
United States handle the
coinage of Israel and any
one of them could fill your
order. When buying this type
of merchandise, you really
should know your dealer.
Get a copy of Coin World
or World Coins at your local
shop. Dealers listed in these
publications are usually very
reliable.
