Computer Saves Time
In Vehicle Registration
ATLANTA (PRN) - A
machine that reads printed
pages of information directly
into a computer is helping the
State Revenue Department
save time and money in
updating motor vehicle
registration files with 1970
auto license tag numbers.
Robert Allen, data
processing director, said the
computer-based system will
enable the department to
re-register about 2.5 million
motor vehicles in Georgia by
July 1.
“In previous years,” Allen
said, “all motor vehicle
registrations had to be
updated with cards punched
manually and then fed into
the computer. Our files
normally were completed just
about the time new license
tags went on sale again.
“'Riis year we anticipate
that we will have our records
updated months ahead of time
and at a savings of
approximately $45,000 under
last year’s cost.”
Allen said the key to the
new system is a device called
an optical page reader, which
scans pre-registration forms of
motor vehicle owners in
Georgia’s 159 counties and
records the information in the
memory unit of an IBM
computer.

Palme: “We’re Like You’
WASHINGTON (UPI) -Swe
dish Prime Minister Olof Palme
said Friday he wished to clear
up some misconceptions that
Americans have about Swedish
sex habits.
“We have conducted some
Kinsey studies of our own,”
Palme told the National Press
Club.
“We found that the sex habits
of the Swedish population and
the sex habits of the American
population are almost exactly
the same,” Palme said.
“That might reassure some
body one way or the other,” he
said.
