Prisoners
eligible
for licenses
Some 90 percent of the
prisoners elegible for vehicle
operators licenses in the
Spalding Public Works Camp
have been reinstated as eligible
drivers, according to Warden
Floyd Wilkerson.
This came as the result of
discussions the Spalding County
Commissioners held with Ellis
MacDougall, new director of the
Department of Corrections.
Under prison regulations,
most of the drivers could not
qualify for licenses. After the
talks with Mr. MacDougall,
applications were resubmitted
and 90 percent of the some 35
operators were qualified.
The commissioners indicated
they were pleased with the
discussion they had with the
new Corrections director.
They felt that talks on the
state level of closing most
county public works camps
would not have any effect on the
Spalding Camp and the one in
operation here would continue
for a long time.
