They’re not
sure of Vegas
CARSON CITY, Nev. (UPI)—
They haven’t moved it, but a
legislative committee isn’t sure
Las Vegas really is in Nevada.
The members of the Senate
finance committee voted Wed
nesday to let the state’s
residents decide at the polls
whether the gambling spa
legally should be included in
Nevada’s boundaries.
A bill sent to the Senate floor
on a 4-3 vote would call a
special election June 8 to
correct a 104-year-old oversight.
In 1867, the Nevada legisla
ture accepted from Congress
most of the land in southern
Nevada. But the lawmakers
never put the plan to a vote of
the people and a description of
the area never has been placed
in the state constitution.
“If you guys are going to run
the state, let’s make sure
you’re in it,” sponsoring Sen.
Emerson Titlow of Teonopah
told Las Vegas area representa
tives, who opposed the bill.
