BEING READIED for its July date with the moon, the
Apollo 15 lunar module is removed from a testing
chamber at Kennedy Space Center, Fla., after systems
checkout in a simulated space environment. The mod
ule will deposit astronauts David R. Scott and James
B. Irwin in the moon’s Hadley-Apennine region.
Presley joins
Liberty Life
Carlton C. Presley, Jr., has
joined Liberty Life Insurance
Co., as a member of the ad
ministration department staff,
according to William E. Lay,
Jr., vice-president for adminis
tration.
Presley graduated from Fur
man University in June, receiv
ing his degree in economics and
business administration. Dur
ing Furman’s winter term,
Presley worked fulltime at
Liberty as a participant in a
special student work program
sponsored by the economics and
business administration depart
ment of the University.
He is a native of Griffin, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Carlton Presley
of Griffin. Presley served for
the past four summers as a
teller at the First National Bank
of Griffin.

LITTLE MISS LUMMUS
Mr. and Mrs. Robert James
Lummus of Route Two,
Jackson, announce the birth of a
daughter on June 29 at the
Griffin-Spalding County
Hospital.
Safe cracked
The GBI, along with Fayette
County officials, investigated a
burglary at a loan company in
Fayetteville over the weekend.
GBI Agent Mike Carothers
said burglars broke into a rear
door of the Hometown Loan Co.,
on the square in Fayetteville.
They took the company safe to a
vacant lot behind the building
where they broke open the safe
door and took between $250 and
1300.

Mr. Foster
Mr. James Chester “J.C.”
Foster of Walkers Mill road,
died at the Griffin-Spalding
County Hospital Tuesday night.
Mr. Foster was born in
Marion County and had made
his home in Griffin for five
years. He was a retired grocery
store operator. ,
Survivors include his wife,
Mrs. Sally Wyrick Foster; a
daughter, Mrs. Verner
Millirons of Pheonix City, Ala.;
a son, A. L. Foster of Griffin;
two sisters, Mrs. Eldora Watson
of Columbus and Mrs. Lucille
Copeland of Talladega, Ala.;
two brothers, Robert Fosterand
Grady Foster, both of Mauk,
Ga.; seven grandchildren;
three great-grandchildren and
several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be
conducted Thursday afternoon
at 4 o’clock from the New Life
Freewill Baptist Church in
Marion County. The Rev. J. B.
Lumpkin will officiate and
burial will be in church
cemetery. The body was
carried to the residence this
afternoon to remain until
carried to the church at 2:30
p.m to lie in state until the
funeral hour. McDonald Chapel
is in charge of plans.
Miss Coleman
Funeral services for Miss
Vickie Ann Coleman, eight, of
517 McKneely street will be
conducted Thursday afternoon
at 1 o’clock from the Trinity
CME Church. The Rev. M. B.
Norman will officiate and burial
will be in Union cemetery.
Survivors include her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe
Coleman, Jr.; two sisters,
Linda Coleman and Lizzie Ann
Coleman; three brothers,
Tommy Joe Coleman, Wayne
Coleman and Lamar Coleman;
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe
Coleman, Sr., and Mr. and Mrs.
Joe Clemons; aunts and uncles.
Miller Funeral Home is in
charge of plans.
Mr. Akin
Included in the survivors of
Mr. James Henry Akin who died
on June 18 is his step-mother,
Mrs. Katie Akin.
Mr. Akin had been in
declining health for several
years.
Ex-Griffinite
accidentally killed
Mr. Carson L. Jones of
Camilla was killed while at
work Tuesday evening when a
bale of scrape metal fell on him.
A native of Griffin, Mr. Jones
had resided in Camilla for eight
years and was employed with
O’Neal Brothers in Pelham, Ga.
He is survived by his wife,
Mrs. Jerrie Jenkins Jones; a
son, Lyndon Jones, both of
Camilla; step-son, David Up
church of Griffin; sister-in-law,
Mrs. Frances Jones of Mc-
Donough; and several nieces
and nephews.
Funeral services will be con
ducted Thursday morning at 11
o’clock from the Braswell
Funeral Home in Pelham.
Burial will be in Cochran, Ga.
Pittman reunion
The Pittman family annual
reunion will be held July 18 at
the Winder, Ga., Elks Club be
ginning at 11:30 a.m.
Members of the family and
relatives were asked to bring a
picnic lunch for the occasion.

Windshield knocked out

North Hill street, reported to
police that he was driving on
North Sixth street Monday night
when he noticed a man standing
in the middle of the street. As he
slowed to make a turn onto
Tinsley street, be said the man
knocked the windshield out of
his car with his hand.
