Mrs. Pollard
Mrs. Allie Griffin Pollard, 67,
of 47 South street, Barnesville,
died at Macon hospital Monday
afternoon after an extended ill
ness.
Mrs. Pollard was born in
Fayette County, daughter of the
late Charlie Tate Griffin and the
late Alice Chambers Griffin.
She had made her home in
Barnesville for 24 years.
She is survived by her hus
band, John Thomas Pollard;
two daughters, Mrs. Mildred
Perkins of Yatesville and Mrs.
Gertrude Issacson of Warner
Robins; a son, John T. Pollard,
Jr. of Milner; four grandchild
ren; a brother, Charlie T.
Griffin of Columbus and a
aster, Mrs. Lola Mae Robison
of Columbus.
Funeral services will be
conducted Wednesday after
noon at 3 o’clock from the
Whitewater Baptist Church in
Fayette County, near Brooks.
The Rev. Worth Huckaby will
officiate and burial will be in the
church cemetery. Haisten
Funeral Home of Barnesville is
in charge of arrangements.
Miss Burford
Funeral services for Miss
Janice Harriet Burford, 18, of
Austell, formerly of Jackson
will be conducted Wednesday at
4 o’clock from Haisten Funeral
Home chapel in Jackson. The
Rev. David Black and the Rev.
Kirk Nesbit will officiate and
burial will be in Cedar Rock
cemetery.
Miss Burford died yesterday
at Crawford W. Long Hospital in
Atlanta. She was a senior at
South Cobb High School and
would have graduated in
August.
She is survived by her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Calvin
Burford of Austell, formerly of
Jackson; a brother, Richard F.
Burford of Atlanta, grand
mother, Mrs. Ruby Pace Bur
ford of Jackson; grandfather,
Charles Hamlin of Griffin;
uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs.
Leon Norton of Griffin.
Mr. Green
Funeral services for Mr.
Milton Green of 917 East Eighth
street, Chattanooga, Tenn.,
were conducted Monday after
noon at 2 o’clock from the
Franklin-Strickland Funeral
Home Chapel in Chattanooga.
The Rev. A. Cobb officiated and
burial was in Highland ceme
tery in Chattanooga.
Mr. Green died Saturday
morning in a Chattanooga
hospital.
Griffin survivors include a
brother, James Green; sister
in-law, Mrs. Dorothy Green; a
niece, Mrs. Mildred Freeman
and nephew, Jerome Miller.

Mrs. Story
Mrs. Laura Heidle Story of
120 Oakdale road, widow of Mr.
Charles Matthews Story, died
this morning at the Griffin-
Spalding County Hospital where
she had been a patient for 11
days after suffering a fractured
lip.
A native of Pike County, Mrs.
Story was the daughter of the
late Phillip Houston Heidle and
the late Mary Frances Beck
ham Heidle. Mrs. Story had
resided in Griffin for 30 years
and was a member of the First
United Methodist Church.
She is survived by two daugh
ters, Mrs. lone Langford of
Thomaston and Mrs. A. B.
Riggins of Griffin; four sons,
Jack P. Story of East Point, Joe
B. Story of Conley, Homer Story
of Zebulon and William E. Story
of Griffin; 10 grandchildren and
14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be
conducted Wednesday after
noon at 3 o’clock in Haisten’s
chapel. The Rev. Dumas B.
Shelnutt and the Rev. Brady
Blalock will officiate and burial
will be in Oak Hill cemetery.
The body will remain at Haisten
Funeral Home. Friends may
visit the family at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Riggins, 130
Oakdale road.
Mr. Whitaker
Funeral services for Mr.
Alfred L. Whitaker, Jr., 27, of
322 North Fifth street, will be
conducted Wednesday after
noon at 1 o’clock from the North
Side Baptist Church. The Rev.
E. Town will officiate and burial
will be in Union cemetery.
Survivors include his wife,
Mrs. Mattie P. Whitaker;
mother, Mrs. Charlie Harvey;
father, Alfred Whitaker, Sr.;
three sisters, Miss Brenda Whi
taker, Miss Geraldine Whitaker
and Mrs. Oscar F. Smith, Jr.;
two brothers, Larry Whitaker
and Ira Whitaker, all of Griffin;
two step-brothers, two step
sisters, aunts, uncles, nieces
and nephews also survive.
McDowell United Funeral
Home is in charge of arrange
ments.
Mrs. Laney
Mrs. Ossie Preston Laney,
wife of George T. Laney of
Macon, died Monday afternoon
at the Macon hospital following
a short illness.
Among her survivors are
three brothers, Leslie L. Pres
ton, J. C. Preston, both of
Griffin and C. W. Preston of
Zebulon.
Funeral services will be
conducted Wednesday after
noon at 1:30 o’clock from Hart
Mortuary in Macon. Graveside
services will be held in Locust
Grove cemetery at 4 o’clock.
Rider finds
man dead
The body of Augustine Joseph
Fischer, 58, of Route Two, High
Falls Road, was found shortly
before noon yesterday by a resi
dent of the area who was horse
back riding.
A. D. Duncan who lives in the
area discovered the badly de
composed body. It was found off
Highway 16 near the Spalding-
Butts County line.
Mr. Fischer was last seen
about a week ago. Relatives told
investigators he had a history of
heart trouble and high blood
pressure. Death was thought to
be from natural causes.
Mr. Fischer was a retired
employe of Dundee Mills.
He is survived by three
daughters, Mrs. Nancy Prince
of Griffin, Mrs. Mary James
Maralas of Chicago, Mrs. Odile
Ogal of Chicago; three sons,
Frank Fischer, Charlie Fischer
and Lee Fischer, all of Griffin;
two brothers, John Fischer and
George Fischer of Pine Bluff,
Ark., 15 grandchildren; several
nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be
conducted at 2 p.m. tomorrow
at McDonald Chapel. The Rev.
Raymond Chambers and the
Rev. Alfred Perdue will offici
ate. Burial will be in Griffin Me
morial Gardens.
Mrs. Leaks
Mrs. Susie Mae Leaks of
Spalding Heights Apts., died
Monday at the Griffin-Spalding
County Hospital.
Survivors include her father,
Ernest Beck of Griffin; three
sisters, Mrs. B. L. Evans, Mrs.
Obediah Floyd and Mrs. Mild
red Newton, all of Griffin; two
brothers, John Wesley Beck of
Griffin and Willie Robert Beck
of Atlanta.
Funeral plans will be an
nounced by Miller Funeral
Home of Griffin.
