The Palace Street Church of
God was the scene Friday, July
2, for the candlelight wedding of
Miss Ruby Jean Thompson to
Mr. Danny Lynn Haney. The
double ring ceremony was per
formed by the Rev. Walter A.
Langdon.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Homer C. Thomp
son Sr. of McDonough. The
groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Donald D. Haney of Knoxville,
Tenn.
The church was decorated
with an arch of candelabra. The
central arrangement was
yellow mums and gladioli. A
single candle was placed in
each window.
Candlelighters were Mr.
Homer Thompson Jr., brother
of the bride, and Mr. Rick
Wright.
Mrs. Janie English, organist,
presented a program of nuptial
music. Miss Judye Bunn, solo
ist, sang "A Time For Us”,
“Theme From Love Story” and
“The Wedding Prayer”.
Mr. Ed Ford of Griffin served
as best man. Groomsmen were
Mr. Jeff Wright, Mr. Rick
Wright and Mr. Homer Thomp
son Jr., all of Griffin.
Mrs. Lynda Thompson, sister
in-law of the bride, was matron
of honor and Miss Wilma
Thompson of McDonough,
sister of the bride, was maid of
honor. They were attired in
gowns of yellow crepe. A row of
yellow daisies was at the em
pire waist. Their headpieces
were yellow veils gathered to a
bow at the crown. They carried
bouquets of yellow and white
daisies with yellow streamers.
Bridesmaids were Mrs. Sarah
Moseley, aunt of the bride, and
Miss Jane Allen. Their gowns
and bouquets were similar to
the honor attendants’.
Little Miss Tami Thompson,
niece of the bride, served as
flower girl. Her gown was of
Victoria E. Vann

and Mr. Theodore Mark Meyer
were united in marriage July 31
at the Church of Our Savior in
Trenton, S.C. The Rev. Robert
B. Dunbar and the Rev. George
Clark performed the ceremony
at 8 p.m.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence William
Vann of Trenton, S.C. The
groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Theodore Jacob Meyer, Jr. of
Ware Shoals, S.C.
Mr. T. J. Meyer served as
best man. Ushers were Mr.
Chris Meyer, Mr. Ric Vann, Mr.
Larry Vann, Mr. Danny Her
long, Mr. Barry Adams, Mr.
Calvert Huffines, Mr. Tim Tur
ner, Mr. Mike Cornwell, Mr.
Jim Hanahan.
Mrs. Joel Roper Moss Jr.,
sister of the bride was matron of
honor. Maid of honor was Miss
Barbara Bates Holman, cousin
of the bride. Bridesmaids were
Bebe Vann, Carol Crawford,
Katrina Riley, Mrs. H. B.
Hamilton Jr., Jane Fisher,
Colesie Jones and Dianne Clark.
All the attendants were gown
ed alike in Swiss organza in
shades of fern green and
champagne. The gowns featur
ed fern green bodices and
bishop sleeves. The neckline
was complimented with a V
neck and notched collar. The
bishop sleeves were finished at
the wrist with multi-colored
gresgrain ribbon. The empire
was accented with multi-wide
belt laced in front with green
ribbon. The full skirts of
champagne had wide inserts of
fern green bound in multi color
ed ribbon. They wore multi
ribbon tied in their hair. They
carried multi colored nosegays
of summer flowers.
The bride was given in marri
age by her father. She wore a
Bianchi original in white peau
satin, oval neckline with prin
cess bodice completely em
broidered and appliqued in seed
pearls and aurora beads. The
front was complimented with
handmaderose petals. The gown
featured short puffed sleeves. A
countour belt fastened in back
with a tailored bow which ac
cented the empire. The A-line
skirt was lavishly embroidered
and appliqued. The detachable
train was aisle wide and cathe
dral length. She wore a watteau
of handmade wind blown
orange blossoms and white
forget-me-nots attached to

yellow crepe with daisies at the
waist. She carried a basket of
yellow carnations.
The bride, given in marriage
by her father, wore an A-line
gown of white satin with a wide
insert of lace and pearls on the
front and on the short sleeves.
Her fingertip veil of illusion fell
from a crown of seed pearls.
She carried a bouquet of white
carnations surrounding a
yellow throated orchid, with
streamers of pearls and satin
ribbon.
As the bride approached the
altar she presented her mother
with a single yellow rose and a
kiss. Upon leaving the altar she
presented the groom’s mother
with a single yellow rose and a
kiss.
For her daughter’s wedding,
Mrs. Thompson chose a mint
green crepe dress with white
accessories. She wore a corsage
of green cymbidium orchids.
Mrs. Haney, mother of the
groom, chose a beige dress with
beige accessories. She wore a
corsage of pink cymbidium
orchids.
Following the wedding, a
reception was held in the fellow
ship hall of the church.
Serving at the reception were
Miss Sheila Langdon, Mrs. Jane
Williamson, Miss Marydale
Reeves and Mrs. Karen Bos
wood.
The bride’s book was kept by
Mrs. Willie Mae Hutto, aunt of
the bride. The book table was
decorated with a bouquet of
yellow and white daisies and
held a white plume pen.
For a wedding trip to Florida,
Mrs. Haney chose a blue
polyester crepe dress for
traveling. She wore navy blue
accessories and the yellow
throated orchid lifted from her
bouquet.
Mr. and Mrs. Haney will
reside in Griffin. The groom is
employed with Atlanta Gas
Light Company.

Mrs. Theodore Mark Meyer

French illusion, which fell to
cafeecfral length. She carried a
bridal nosegay of pink sweet
heart roses, white maguerite
daisies and stephanotis, long
narrow streamers of pink vel
vet.
Following the wedding a
reception was held at the home
of the bride.

Charleston, S.C.

Eric Taylor, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Jack Taylor Jr. celebrated
his first birthday with a party at
the home of his grandparents,
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Taylor Sr.,

The party was held in the
back yard of the home. Cake,
soft drinks and homemade ice

Mr. Potts is the grandson of
Mr. Alfred Z. Sheets and the
late Mrs. Sheets of Carrollton,
Ga. and the late Mr. and Mrs.
Walter W. Potts of Carrollton,
Ga. He attended Palmer Junior
College in Charleston and the
University of Texas. Mr. Potts
is in the United States Army and
is presently stationed at Home

their vacation last week.

Myrtle Beach and Charleston,
S.C. and other places of interest
in the two states. Deep sea fish
ing was an outstanding event of
the tour in spite of a slight sea
sickness while on the fishing
boat.

Mr. Howard is the grandson

Milner and the late Mr. R. B.
Duckworth of Milner. His pater
nal grandparents are Mr. and
Mrs. C. P. Howard of Orchard
Hill.
He is a 1970 graduate of
Griffin High School and is at
tending Auburn University. He
is presently employed with
Airline Aviation Academy in
Griffin.

The marriage of Miss Sandra
Carol Lowry to Mr. Thomas
Derry O’Pry was solemnized
July 2 at the Kincaid United
Memorial Methodist Church.
The Rev. Cecil Dix performed
the single ring ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Leroy C. Lowry of
Griffin and the groom is the son
of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Y.
O’Pry of Griffin.
The church was decorated
with a central arrangement of
yellow and white mums, glads
and carnations. Yellow tapers
surrounded by ivy were placed
in the windows and a double
candelabra of yellow tapers
surrounded by ivy, was placed
on the organ. Seven branched
candelabra were placed on each
side of the altar and additional
seven branched candelabra
were flanked diagonally up
ward to the cross upon the altar
table. The candlelabra were
entwined with ivy. White satin
streamers came forth from the
cross and extended on the table
edge. Yellow carnations and ivy
lay at the table edge. A large
white and gold Bible, owned by
the bride’s sisters, was placed
on the kneeling rail of the altar.
It was opened to the 100th
Psalm and a strand of pearls
and green ribbon streamers
were the bookmarkers. The
altar rail was banked with ivy
and yellow and white bows. Two
large white bows accented the
Bible on each side. Two large
yellow bows were placed on
either side of the altar table and
two yellow satin bows marked
the family pews.
The church was decorated by
Mrs. Delores Lovin, Leroy
Lowry and the bride.
Miss Eileen Allison, organist
and soloist, presented a pro
gram of nuptial music including
the songs, “More”, “A Time
For Us” and “The Lord’s
Prayer”.
Mr. Thomas Y. O’Pry served
as his son’s best man. Ushers
were Mr. Wayne Golden and
Mr. Daryl Cook.
Candlelighters were Jennifer
Barrow and Billy Thaxton.
Master David Lowry, brother
of the bride, served as ring
bearer. He carried a white
pillow covered with lace to
which the ring was tied.
Mrs. Linda Golden, sister of
the bride, was matron of honor.
She wore a mint green bonded
crepe floor length gown featur
ing a scooped neckline, empire
waistline and short sleeves. She
wore a matching bow and white
gloves and a gold bracelet, a
gift from the bride. She carried
a bouquet of three long stem
med yellow roses with green
fern and yellow satin bow and
streamers.
Bridesmaids were Mrs.
Patricia Barrow, cousin of the
bride, and Mrs. Gayle Cook.
Mrs. Barrow wore a gown of
primrose yellow, styled on prin
cess lines with a jewel neckline
and trimmed with pearls at the
neckline and short capped
sleeves. She wore a matching
bow and carried a bouquet of
two long stemmed yellow roses
enhanced with green fern and
yellow satin bow and stream
ers.
Mrs. Cook wore a mint green
gown styled with empire waist
and short sleeves. The waist
was trimmed in green lace. She
wore a matching bow and
carried a bouquet of two long
stemmed yellow roses enhanc
ed with green fern and yellow
satin bow and streamers. The
bridesmaids wore white gloves

celebrates
3rd birthday
Hugh D. Stansell, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Jimmy Hugh Stansell,
celebrated his third birthday
with a party at his home.
Hats were given to each
guest.

wore a mint green bonded crepe

floor from an empire waist
trimmed in white lace. The
gown featured a rounded neck
line, trimmed in white lace, and
short sleeves. She carried a
basket of yellow rose petals and
wore a mint green bow in her
hair. She wore white gloves and
a gold bracelet, a gift from the
bride.
The bride, given in marriage
by her father, wore a gown of
silk organza over taffeta. The
gown was styled with an empire
waistline and the bodice and
feort juliet sleeves were over
laid with chantilly lace. The
sleeves puffed into wrist length
of silk organza. The waistline,
sleeves and jeweled neckline
were trimmed in daisies. Her
fingertip veil was attached to a
juliet cap covered in nylon net
and strings of pearls. Her
sweeping train flowed to the
floor. The bride wore a cameo
necklace, borrowed from her
aunt, Miss Agnes Huff, and a
sixpence, borrowed from her
sister, Mrs. Linda Golden, was
placed in her shoe.
The bridal bouquet consisted
of lily of the valley and carna
tions centered with a large
yellow throated orchid. White
satin streamers with small lily
of the valley stems tied in with
the love knots and strands of
pearls fell from the bouquet.
For her daughter’s wedding,
Mrs. Lowry chose an aqua lace
short sleeved dress featuring a
jewel neckline. She wore white
accessories and a double white
cymbidum orchid corsage.
For her son’s wedding, Mrs.
O’Pry chose a blue bonded knit
sleeveless dress, styled with a
yoke and high neckline. She
wore a necklace of crystal blue
beads and white accessories.
Her corsage was a double
cymbidium orchid.
Mrs. Ida Fallin, grandmother
of the bride, wore a blue dress
with white accessories. Her cor
sage was a white double carna
tion.
Mrs. Levere Crowder direct
ed the wedding and Mrs. Jerry
Barrow and Mrs. Levere
Crowder, cousins of the bride,
decorated the reception hall.
Following the wedding a
reception was held in the Chea
tham building at the church.
The bride’s table was covered
wife a green cloth overlaid with
a lace cloth. The three tiered
wedding cake, separated with
dove columns and decorated
with light yellow roses and
green leaves, was topped with a
miniature bride and groom. The
bride’s bouquet was placed on
fee table. A five branched silver
candelabra with yellow tapers
was placed in the center of the
table.
The groom’s cake was placed
on the other end of the table.
The punch table was covered
with a green cloth overlaid with
a lace cloth. The table was
centered with a crystal punch
bowl, surrounded with ivy.
Silver candleholders were used
on either side. An arrangement
of white glads, yellow and white
carnations and large yellow
daisies was placed on one end of
fee table.

Miss Brenda Collier. The table
was covered with a green cloth
overlaid with a white lace cloth.
The table was decorated with a
bud vase, holding three yellow
roses. A white plume pen was
used.
For a wedding trip to the
mountains, the bride wore a
pink, short sleeved A-line dress
with empire waist, trimmed in
pink lace. She wore white ac
cessories and the orchid lifted
from her bouquet.
Mr. and Mrs. O’Pry will re
side at 309 North 14th street,
Griffin. Mr. O’Pry is employed
as a carpenter in Atlanta.
Prior to the wedding, the
following showers were given:
