in one run and set up another
in a 2-1 win, his fifth against

BLOOMINGTON, Minn.—Twins’ Harmon Killebrew holds up baseballs 500 and 501 after he
became the 10th major league player to enter the 500 career homerun bracket Killebrew hit the

Killebrew passes
500 homer mark
By STEVE WILSTEIN
UPI Sports Writer
Harmon Killebrew had just
hit his 500th career home run
and so he celebrated the best
way he knew how. He hit his
501st.
But his heroics were in vain.
Merv Rettenmund, who is now
only 468 home runs behind
Killebrew, hit his ninth of the
year in the 10th inning to steal
Harmon’s show and give the
Baltimore Orioles a 4-3 victory
over the Minnesota Twins.
“Not winning takes a little
shine off what happened, but
I’m very proud to have reached
this point in my career,”
