Local soldiers
train dogs
in Vietnam
BIEN HOA, Vietnam-Two
Griffin soldiers currently are
stationed in Bien Hoa, Vietnam,
serving with the Dog Training
Detachment. Sgt. Joel C.
Taylor, son of Mrs. Betty G.
Sangster of Griffin, is a scout
dog instructor, while Sepcialist
Four Charles Whitaker of
Experiment, is being trained as
a mine dog handler.
Recently Taylor, who arrived
in Vietnam Oct. 2, 1970,
demonstrated instruction
techniques for an ABC camera
crew which was filming a
documentary on Army dogs.
The Dog Training Detach
ment, known to Taylor and
Whitaker and the other men
stationed here as the Daisy Hill
Puppy Farm, performs a wide
assortment of activities.
Training a dog, whether it be for
mine detection, scout work,
marijuana detection, tracking
or sentry work, is a long and
tedious process for Taylor,
Whitaker and their companions.
